Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mauricio Cabral!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bryan Lester!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Paulo Santos and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lester shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cabral as he avoids it easily.
Lester tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Cabral tries to close the distance and clinch but Lester swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Lester closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Cabral wants to stall.

Lester's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Cabral scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.


It looks like Bryan Lester has been cut.
Cabral misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Cabral misses with a takedown attempt - Lester sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Lester closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cabral circles away.

Lester shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cabral as he jumps to the side.

Cabral closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lester to the mat! Lester manages to get full guard.

Lester wants to get back to his feet.

Lester tries to roll over but Cabral keeps him under control.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cabral escapes and gets back to his feet.
Lester throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cabral's waist but Cabral gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lester off to one side.

Cabral throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Lester tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cabral is in Lester's guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Cabral wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Lester has him pressed against the cage.

Cabral forces Lester back against the cage and clinches.
Cabral drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Lester gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Lester breaks from the clinch.
Cabral's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Lester connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Cabral scrambles back to his feet.
Cabral closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lester circles away.

Lester fails with an attempt to clinch.
Cabral falls off balance throwing a combination
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Lester is looking to clinch.

Cabral closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Lester's guard.

Lester is trying to control the position but Cabral postures up.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Cabral stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mauricio Cabral will probably get the nod.

That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


No joy there for Cabral, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Lester shoots and misses

and Cabral decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Lester's guard.
Cabral controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Lester is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Lester really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cabral. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Cabral advances to full mount.
Lester tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cabral looking to control and managing it successfully.
Mauricio Cabral overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Cabral is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Lester can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Cabral stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cabral.

Cabral shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lester napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Cabral is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Lester is trying to escape and Cabral transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Lester is forced to tap! Nice work there by Cabral! Very nice indeed!
