PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tim Perry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Les Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tim Perry is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tim Perry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Les Paul!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perry fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Paul rushes Perry and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Paul breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Perry throws a head kick but Paul moves out of range.
Paul looks to land a combination. Perry sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Paul tests Perry's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Paul tries to close the distance and clinch but Perry swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Perry really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Perry fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Sloppy strikes from Perry. Those never looked like landing.
Perry fails with an attempt to clinch.

Paul is looking to clinch but Perry is avoiding it.

Paul shoots for a takedown but Perry saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Perry shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Paul defends it nicely.

Paul pushes Perry up against the cage in a clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Les Paul seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Perry shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Paul but Paul pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Paul swats away the attempt to clinch by Perry.

Perry shoots for a takedown but Paul saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Perry shoots for a double leg takedown but Paul sprawls well. He's pushed Perry's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Paul throws a series of punches but Perry moves out of range.
Paul misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Paul has Perry pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Perry manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Perry is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Perry fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Perry is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Paul to keep the fight standing.
Paul tries to score a body lock takedown but Perry shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Paul is trying to trip Perry. He has hold of a leg but Perry is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Paul persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Perry is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Paul won't allow Perry to sweep him here.
Paul wants to control from the top but Perry keeps moving.
Perry will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Paul got a little sloppy there for a moment and Perry has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Paul has managed to get both his arms back between Perry's legs - danger averted.
Paul wants to pass the guard but Perry is keeping the position.
Perry is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Perry walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Paul checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Perry tries to clinch but Paul is having none of it.

Paul gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Perry misses with a takedown attempt
and Paul counters with a nice low kick that buckles Perry's knee momentarily.
Perry avoids the head kick by Paul.
Perry is looking to clinch but Paul is avoiding it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Perry tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Paul manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Paul displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Perry.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Les Paul dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Perry takes a kick to the side of the head.
Perry fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

and Paul counters with a right hand to the body.

Paul rushes Perry and presses him up against the cage.

Paul turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Paul manages to end up in side control.

Paul is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Perry has escaped the position, nice work there.
Perry gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Perry has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Paul is working away from the top position though.

Perry wants to get back to his feet.
Paul is breathing heavily.

Paul gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Paul moves in looking to clinch but Perry pushes him off.
Perry tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Perry fails in his attempt to clinch.
Paul throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Perry counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Perry tries to clinch up but Paul circles away and keeps his distance.
Perry closes the distance looking to clinch
and Paul counters with a two punch combo.

Perry gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Perry tries to close the distance and clinch up but Paul swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Perry doesn't manage to clinch there - Paul circles away.
Paul shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Perry as he avoids it easily.
Perry shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Paul defends it nicely.

Perry tries to land a front kick but Paul steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Paul ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Paul no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tim Perry has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Perry fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Perry shoots in for a takedown but Paul shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Paul shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Paul showed some decent athleticism there.
Perry tries to roll over but Paul keeps him under control.

Paul is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Perry sees it coming and defends easily.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Perry is working an open guard so Paul takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Les Paul showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Perry misses with a takedown
and Paul makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Perry moves forwards but Paul connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Paul tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Perry paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Paul is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A bone on bone clash there as Paul blocks the leg kick.
Perry swats away the attempt to clinch by Paul.
Paul bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Perry's head.
Perry will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Perry tries to score with a low kick but Paul moves his leg out of the way.
Paul takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Perry closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Paul quickly recovers to half guard.

Perry seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Paul does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Paul wants to improve his position but Perry is controlling well.

Perry is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Paul is just riding it out for now. Perry eventually gives up the hold.
Perry wants to take a breather but Paul is having none of it.

Perry prevents Paul from standing back up.
Paul wants to get back to full guard.
Perry wants to pass to mount but Paul is defending the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Perry closes this distance looking for a takedown but Paul circles away.

Paul lands with a slapping head kick.
Paul swats away the attempt to clinch by Perry.
Perry shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Paul as he avoids it easily.

Paul looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Perry is fending him off so far but Paul persists. Nope, Perry circles away and we're back to standing.

Perry gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Paul counters by moving into the clinch.

Paul is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Perry can't fight it off and eventually Paul manages to take the fight to the floor. Perry looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Perry is trying to control the position but Paul postures up.

Paul drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Paul jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Perry is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Les Paul.
Well Paul has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
