PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bailey Vaughan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dick Carbone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Dick Carbone was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bailey Vaughan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dick Carbone!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Alyssa Summers and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vaughan closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Vaughan lands in his opponent's guard.

Carbone trying to control the position.

Carbone throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Carbone is looking to stand back up but Vaughan counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Carbone.

Carbone wants to get back to his feet.
Vaughan controlling the pace.
Carbone is trying to stand up here but Vaughan is controlling him well.

Bailey Vaughan has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Carbone leaves Vaughan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Carbone throws a series of punches but Vaughan avoids them all with ease.
Vaughan on the wrong end of a nice hook.

Vaughan throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Carbone was covering up waiting for the punch and Vaughan finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Carbone has his foot on Vaughan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Vaughan works his way back into a safe position though.

Carbone is looking for a triangle here but Vaughan uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Carbone is trying to buck Vaughan off.
Vaughan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Carbone keeps working.
Vaughan prevents Carbone from escaping the position.

Vaughan looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Vaughan is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Carbone will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Carbone is pushing Vaughan's head away, looking to escape. Vaughan manages to hold on to the position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You can see the frustration on Carbone's face as Vaughan controls the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Carbone is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Good leg kick by Carbone there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Carbone tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Vaughan swivels and escapes.
A big right from Carbone misses.
Vaughan steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Carbone.
Carbone looks to land a left hand but Vaughan moved out of range nicely.
Vaughan tries to clinch but Carbone moves out of range.

Vaughan gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Carbone to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Carbone stays in close to Vaughan's body and controls the position.

Vaughan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Vaughan has control of Carbone's left arm, preventing Carbone from doing any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Dick Carbone.
Carbone throws a leg kick but Vaughan sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Vaughan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Vaughan blocks the strikes from Carbone.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vaughan is trying to control. Carbone wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Vaughan is stalling here. Carbone is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Vaughan seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Carbone has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
You can see the frustration on Vaughan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Carbone thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Carbone swings around for an armbar but Vaughan sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Carbone's guard.

Vaughan stays in close to Carbone's body and controls the position.
Vaughan tries to free his leg and advance position but Carbone is retaining full guard.
Vaughan passes Carbone's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Vaughan is trying to control. Carbone wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Vaughan seems to be working for a kimura but Carbone defends the submission attempt.

Vaughan takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Vaughan is just content to waste time from the top position. Carbone takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bailey Vaughan will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Carbone lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Vaughan circles away quickly and effectively.
Carbone throws a hook but Vaughan blocks it.
Carbone throws a right and a left that both miss.
Nice sprawl there from Carbone as Vaughan shoots in.
Horrible takedown by Vaughan or perhaps it was just good defense by Carbone which made him look bad.

Vaughan paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Vaughan tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Carbone was well out of range. Poor timing from Vaughan.
Carbone pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Carbone tries to score a power double leg takedown but Vaughan sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Carbone somewhat.

Carbone is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Vaughan is controlling him.

Vaughan has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Bailey Vaughan.

Carbone takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

and Vaughan counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Vaughan closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Bailey Vaughan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Carbone pushes Vaughan off looking to stand but Vaughan dives back in and keeps control.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Vaughan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
