Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 38 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paul Bourque!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Edmundo Jr!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Mauricio Rocha and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jr with a lazy takedown attempt
and Bourque cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Jr misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Bourque throws a body punch but Jr moves out of range.

Jr shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Bourque manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Bourque is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Bourque will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Bourque has his hands on Jr's head, controlling the position.

Bourque really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Jr throws a strike but Bourque rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Bourque stands and steps away. Jr gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Jr dives in and grabs Bourque's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bourque pushes down on Jr's head and hops out.

Jr changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bourque tries to avoid it but Jr manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bourque to the ground. Bourque escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Edmundo Jr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Paul Bourque will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Horrible takedown by Jr or perhaps it was just good defense by Bourque which made him look bad.

Jr tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bourque sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jr somewhat.

Bourque bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jr's guard.

Jr throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bourque's waist but Bourque gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jr off to one side.

Bourque Throws a clean left jab. Bourque Twirls his body and connects with a Spinning Back Fist that connects flush with Jr's chin! Jr crumbles to the ground and Bourque follows up with some unanswered strikes. It's all over!! Nice standup skills displayed by Bourque!
