PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Takashi Matsumoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darius Grimshaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matsumoto comes to the cage accompanied by Yoshida Brothers - Ibuki. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Takashi Matsumoto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Darius Grimshaw!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Emerson Jorge and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Matsumoto closes the distance and clinches.
Matsumoto changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Grimshaw fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Grimshaw closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Matsumoto quickly recovers to half guard.

Matsumoto tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Grimshaw tries to stand but Matsumoto is controlling his head.
Matsumoto takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Matsumoto is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Grimshaw is stalling here. Matsumoto is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Grimshaw seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Matsumoto has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Grimshaw should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Matsumoto throws a strike aimed at the side of Grimshaw's head but Grimshaw avoids it well.

Grimshaw is looking for a sweep.
Grimshaw is trying to work for a sweep but Matsumoto has mounted him!

Grimshaw is not content to let Matsumoto control the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Matsumoto seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Grimshaw does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Takashi Matsumoto wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Grimshaw closes the distance and clinches.
Matsumoto is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Grimshaw is defending well.

Grimshaw pulls guard successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Grimshaw is adopting a defensive guard.
Matsumoto looking to sit in guard and control but Grimshaw gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Matsumoto working for a triangle but Grimshaw defends it easily.
Matsumoto is breathing heavily.
Grimshaw trying to stand up but can't free himself from Matsumoto's guard.
Grimshaw looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Let's hope that Grimshaw has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Grimshaw shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Grimshaw passes to side control.
Matsumoto is trying to get back to half guard.
Matsumoto is not content to let Grimshaw control the position.

Matsumoto is looking for a sweep.
Matsumoto on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Grimshaw controls the position from side control.
Grimshaw lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Matsumoto tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Grimshaw stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Matsumoto tries to sprawl but Grimshaw drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Matsumoto is refusing to be controlled, as Grimshaw sits in half guard.

Still in half guard, Grimshaw seems content to control.
Grimshaw is trying to control the action in half guard but Matsumoto is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Grimshaw is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Matsumoto sees it coming and defends easily.
Matsumoto might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Grimshaw is trying to control the action in half guard but Matsumoto is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Oh Matsumoto is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Grimshaw is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Matsumoto!
A big strike lands for Grimshaw! That's really hurt Matsumoto and he's turned his back - Grimshaw keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Grimshaw jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
