PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jock Sleed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Garcia has chosen Art of Fighting Theme as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jock Sleed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Robert Garcia!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Steve Erwin and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sleed tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Garcia was well out of range. Poor timing from Sleed.
Garcia shoots and misses

and Sleed counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Garcia's guard now.

Sleed avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Sleed's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Garcia looking for subs off his back but Sleed has passed one foot through into half guard.
Sleed working Garcia over with strikes.
Sleed takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Garcia tries to roll over but Sleed keeps him under control.
Sleed tries to stand but can't do so whilst Garcia controls his leg.

Sleed slips a nice elbow through Garcia's hands, connecting with Garcia's forehead.
Sleed throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Garcia wants to control but Sleed is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Garcia wants to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sleed content to control rather than advance.
Garcia wants to improve his position but Sleed is controlling well.
Sleed tries to pass the half guard into mount. Garcia knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Garcia is trying to maintain the position but Sleed is very close to passing his half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sleed stuns Garcia with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Sleed darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Garcia is trying to control but Sleed manages to pass to mount!
Sleed has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Garcia's face.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Garcia is in all sorts of trouble here.

Sleed trying to control but Garcia is having none of it.
Garcia gets back to half guard.
Garcia trying to hold on to Sleed's head to control him but Sleed postures up.
Sleed looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Garcia pushes Sleed off looking to stand but Sleed dives back in and keeps control.
Sleed is taking a breather. Garcia says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Sleed works his way into side control.
Sleed is looking to take a break and control but Garcia is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sleed working away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sleed lands a nice forearm strike.
Garcia seems a little lost for a moment, as Sleed dominates the positioning.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sleed has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Sleed tries for a kimura but Garcia is defending well.
Sleed working away.
Sleed tries to move into full mount but can't pass Garcia's legs.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sleed scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Garcia to see if he's OK.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sleed slips into full mount, dodging the strikes by Garcia.
Garcia is bucking up trying to escape but Sleed cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jock Sleed dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Sleed closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Jock Sleed overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sleed lands some shots froms side control.
Garcia can't do much from the bottom here.
Sleed is chipping away with strikes.

Sleed stands up.
Garcia tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sleed sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Garcia somewhat.
Sleed tries a head kick but it misses.
Garcia looks for a takedown but Sleed sprawls well.
Jock Sleed seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Garcia keeps the fight on the outside.

Sleed darts in and clinches Garcia up against the cage.

Sleed has picked Garcia up - he's going for a ride! Sleed dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Sleed seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Garcia does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Garcia avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Sleed.
Sleed looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Sleed is looking for a kimura but Garcia is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sleed to get the leverage.
Garcia slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Garcia had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sleed defends it easily.
Sleed tries to stand but Garcia is controlling from the bottom.

Sleed preventing the sweep.
Garcia can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sleed controls the pace.
Garcia has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Sleed has passed into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
You can see the frustration on Garcia's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Sleed is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Garcia is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Garcia wants to control but Sleed postures up.
Garcia gets back to half guard.

Garcia is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Sleed pulls his head out easily.
Garcia is breathing heavily.
Sleed controlling the action here.
Garcia is looking for a sweep. Sleed is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sleed in particular looking to stall.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Garcia tries to get to full guard but Sleed has control of the leg.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jock Sleed just wasn't active enough.

Sleed has Garcia up against the cage in a clinch.

Sleed is trying to trip Garcia. He has hold of a leg but Garcia is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Sleed persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Sleed pushes down on Garcia's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sleed lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sleed tries to pass to full mount but Garcia defends it.
Garcia trying to control but Sleed postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jock Sleed dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Garcia slips a jab and a cross from Sleed.

Sleed lands a left and a right that send Garcia crashing to the mat, dazed. Sleed thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Garcia is rocked!


It looks like Robert Garcia has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Garcia is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Garcia is still on wobbly legs! Can Sleed finish him?
Garcia changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sleed tries to avoid it but Garcia manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sleed to the ground. Sleed escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Garcia dodges the punch combination from Sleed.
Garcia seems to have recovered his senses.
Sleed misses with a double jab.

Sleed clinches with his opponent.
Sleed wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Sleed pulls guard successfully.
Sleed is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Garcia can do to turn this around?

Sleed is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Garcia is controlling him.

Sleed is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Garcia tries to free his leg and advance position but Sleed is retaining full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sleed wants to hit a switch here but Garcia passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Sleed there!
Sleed gets back to half guard.
Sleed is trying is best to control the position here.
Sleed pushes Garcia off looking to stand but Garcia dives back in and keeps control.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Sleed has his hands clasped together around Garcia's back. He's all about the action.

Garcia doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Sleed counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Garcia thinking.

Jock Sleed has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Robert Garcia.

Sleed gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Garcia regains guard.
Sleed slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Robert Garcia has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sleed wants to control from the top but Garcia keeps moving.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jock Sleed is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Garcia will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Well Sleed has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
