PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Diego Guerra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Kubiak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Guerra comes to the ring accompanied by Blink-182 - Heart's All Gone. Michael Kubiak is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Diego Guerra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Michael Kubiak!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Kubiak. No joy for Guerra on that attempt.
Guerra takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Guerra gets a takedown into half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Kubiak avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Guerra.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Guerra has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Guerra takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Kubiak is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Guerra moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Kubiak has worked his arm free - good work by Kubiak!

Guerra grinds an elbow into Kubiak's temple.

Guerra is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kubiak is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Guerra is looking to take a break and control but Kubiak is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kubiak is not content to let Guerra control the position.

Guerra is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kubiak knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Guerra is really struggling to control Kubiak but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Guerra advances nicely into full mount.

Guerra has hold of Kubiak's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kubiak manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Guerra is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Kubiak can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Guerra wants to control the pace but Kubiak is squirming around nicely.
Guerra lands a big shot there that rocks Kubiak but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Guerra unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Kubiak wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Guerra celebrates on the ropes and the crowd goes wild!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 7:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Diego Guerra!
Diego Guerra was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
