PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frank Hammer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Larry Regan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hammer kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Slippin. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Larry Regan enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Frank Hammer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Larry Regan!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Hugh Johnson and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Regan just misses with a punch to the body.
Regan thuds a left hand into Hammer's body.
Hammer fails with a takedown attempt.
Hammer tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Regan paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hammer uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Regan.
Regan misses with a wild body shot.
Regan looks to land a body kick but Hammer moved away.
Hammer tries to clinch but Regan is having none of it.

Regan closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Hammer looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hammer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Regan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hammer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hammer actively working from the bottom here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hammer tries to roll over but Regan keeps him under control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hammer manages to get to full guard.

Hammer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Regan defends it easily.

Hammer looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Regan is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Regan wants to pass the guard but Hammer is keeping the position.

Hammer is looking for a triangle but Regan pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Regan trying to control the position from guard on top but Hammer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hammer throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hammer has momentary wrist control but Regan slips an elbow through the middle.
Regan working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hammer has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Regan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Regan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hammer has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Regan has managed to get both his arms back between Hammer's legs - danger averted.
Regan sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Hammer looking for subs off his back but Regan has passed one foot through into half guard.
Regan seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Still in half guard, Regan seems content to control.

Hammer looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Hammer is trying to get back to full guard.
Hammer is staying active underneath Regan, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Regan not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Regan is nestled in close to Hammer, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Regan wants to take a breather but Hammer is having none of it.

Hammer is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Regan pulls his head out easily.
Hammer is looking for a sweep. Regan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Hammer keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Hammer regains full guard. Nicely done.
Regan trying to control but Hammer is working from the bottom.

Regan is posturing up here but Hammer has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Regan tries to roll out but it's too tight and Regan has to tap! Slick submission there by Hammer!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Frank Hammer!
Frank Hammer decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
