Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Hecker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hideo Kono (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hideo Kono will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeff Hecker!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hideo Kono!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Bruno Lombardi and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kono throws a nice looking combination but Hecker bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hecker shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kono defends it nicely.
Kono lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Hecker fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kono to the ground. Hecker is now in Kono's guard.
Hecker won't allow Kono to get back to his feet.

Hecker thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Hecker loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Kono pulls Hecker in close to prevent any damage.
Hecker really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Hecker postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hecker connects with a couple of short punches.
Kono tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kono working a defensive guard but Hecker manages to pass into side control anyway.

A bit of a lull in the action here.
Hecker takes a little break here. Kono wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Hecker decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Hideo Kono is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hecker closes the distance and clinches up with Kono, looking for a takedown. Hecker pushes Kono against the cage but Kono circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hecker has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeff Hecker. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kono scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Hecker doesn't seem bothered though.
Kono ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hecker.
Hecker fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kono avoids it really well and circles away.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hecker gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Hecker gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Nice uppercut there from Kono.
Donk. Kono catches Hecker right on the button with a cross.
Kono keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Hecker takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Hecker fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kono avoids it really well and circles away.
Hecker fails with a takedown attempt.
Kono lands with a good body shot.
Donk. Kono catches Hecker right on the button with a cross.


Hecker is rocked!
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Kono lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Oh Hecker is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hecker uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kono.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hecker.
Kono stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kono wants it to stay on the feet.
Hecker is breathing heavily.
Hecker avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Kono throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Kono stuffs the takedown.
Hecker slips a straight right by Kono.
Hideo Kono seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kono misses with a straight right.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kono changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Hecker seems to have got his legs back now.
Kono connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Hecker tumbling to the canvas! Kono pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Hecker was done - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Hideo Kono! Hideo Kono retains his bantamweight title!
A relieved looking Hideo Kono thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
