PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Karim Ostin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Droski De La Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Karim Ostin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Droski De La Cruz!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ostin fakes the leg kick and cracks De La Cruz in the body.
Ostin looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Ostin fails to land the takedown.
Ostin fails with an attempt to clinch.
De La Cruz is looking to clinch.
Ostin shoots in looking for a takedown. De La Cruz tries to sprawl out of it but Ostin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. De La Cruz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Karim Ostin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from De La Cruz is defended easily by Ostin.
Ostin shoots in looking for a takedown. De La Cruz tries to sprawl out of it but Ostin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. De La Cruz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Ostin changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. De La Cruz tries to avoid it but Ostin manages to keep hold of a leg and drag De La Cruz to the ground. De La Cruz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

De La Cruz tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ostin sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten De La Cruz somewhat.
Ostin swats away the attempt to clinch by De La Cruz.
Ostin shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts De La Cruz as he jumps to the side.
Ostin closes the distance and clinches up with De La Cruz, looking for a takedown. Ostin pushes De La Cruz against the cage but De La Cruz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
De La Cruz throws a lazy uppercut
and Ostin counters with an outside leg kick.

Ostin has closed the distance and engaged De La Cruz in a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

De La Cruz is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Ostin can't fight it off and eventually De La Cruz manages to take the fight to the floor. Ostin looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
De La Cruz wants to get up but he can't break Ostin's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Ostin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

De La Cruz is working Ostin over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

De La Cruz wants to control from the top but Ostin keeps moving.
Ostin not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ostin wants to sweep here but De La Cruz controlling him for the moment.
De La Cruz tries to free his leg and advance position but Ostin is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
De La Cruz lands a couple of elbows.
De La Cruz is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
De La Cruz trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
De La Cruz pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ostin is keeping the position for now.

De La Cruz has gone for a leg lock! Ostin slips out almost immediately though and dives into De La Cruz's guard.

Ostin trying to control the position from guard on top but De La Cruz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ostin postures up in De La Cruz's guard and throws a big left but De La Cruz blocks it.
Ostin forces his way into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ostin is trying to control the action in half guard but De La Cruz is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Droski De La Cruz will probably get the nod.

Ostin throws a sloppy head kick
and De La Cruz counters with a series of strikes. Ostin will be more careful next time no doubt.
Ostin tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but De La Cruz swivels and escapes.
De La Cruz fails with the takedown.
Ostin swats away the attempt to clinch by De La Cruz.

Ostin forces De La Cruz back against the cage and clinches.
De La Cruz dodges an elbow strike from Ostin.
De La Cruz working hard to break the clinch.
Ostin tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Ostin is looking for a takedown.

De La Cruz is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Ostin manages to get to full guard.

De La Cruz throws a big elbow that misses.
De La Cruz stands up over Ostin, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
De La Cruz lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Ostin is looking to stand up but De La Cruz isn't so interested in that idea.
De La Cruz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ostin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

De La Cruz is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ostin is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ostin has escaped and now he's on top!
Ostin looking to sit in guard and control but De La Cruz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Ostin is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. De La Cruz is aware though and is defending well.

De La Cruz passes Ostin's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Ostin throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
De La Cruz lands with a punch from half guard.
De La Cruz is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
De La Cruz lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Droski De La Cruz has got the better of the ground game so far.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
De La Cruz tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Ostin is trying to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Droski De La Cruz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


De La Cruz tries to clinch but Ostin is having none of it.
Ostin has a takedown stuffed.
Ostin dives in and grabs De La Cruz's left leg, looking for a takedown. De La Cruz pushes down on Ostin's head and hops out.
De La Cruz tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
De La Cruz shoots in but no luck this time.
Karim Ostin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

De La Cruz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Ostin struggling a bit here.
De La Cruz is working Ostin over with some ground and pound from side control.
Ostin wants to control but De La Cruz postures up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

De La Cruz working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
De La Cruz trying to control the action but Ostin is working from the bottom.

De La Cruz looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Ostin parries the strikes from De La Cruz easily there. De La Cruz is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Ostin to escape.

De La Cruz working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
De La Cruz wants to take a breather but Ostin manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for De La Cruz.

Ostin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Ostin has his foot on De La Cruz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. De La Cruz works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
De La Cruz working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Ostin is looking to stand up but De La Cruz isn't so interested in that idea.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

De La Cruz drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

De La Cruz decides to stand back up. De La Cruz steps back and let's Ostin get back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

De La Cruz closes the distance and pushes Ostin back into the cage.
De La Cruz swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Karim Ostin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Droski De La Cruz is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
De La Cruz blocks the elbow strike.

And that's the end of the fight!
Droski De La Cruz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well De La Cruz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
