PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Wes Underwood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Pattis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Underwood's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Stronger. Anthony Pattis is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wes Underwood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Pattis!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Underwood wants to land a leg kick but Pattis is out of range.
Underwood throws out a leg kick but Pattis moves out of range and Underwood only half commits.
Pattis fails to land the takedown.
Pattis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Pattis wants to clinch.
Pattis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Underwood manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Pattis looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Underwood is fending him off so far but Pattis persists. Nope, Underwood circles away and we're back to standing.

Underwood drives through with a takedown into Pattis's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Underwood's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Pattis looking to hit a scissor sweep but Underwood is one step ahead there.
Underwood stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pattis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Underwood tries to stand but Pattis is controlling from the bottom.
Pattis can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Underwood controls the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Wes Underwood.

Underwood has taken the fight to the clinch.

Underwood takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Underwood fails in his attempt to clinch.

Underwood scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Underwood tries to stand and escape but Pattis is controlling the position.

Pattis wants to control but Underwood is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Underwood uses his free foot to push down on Pattis's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Pattis.
Pattis keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pattis really wants to buck Underwood off and get back to his feet.
Pattis is wriggling around trying to escape.
Underwood avoids the attempt from Pattis to control.
Underwood controlling the position easily from mount.
Pattis tries to hold on but Underwood postures up.
Underwood will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Pattis is in a horrible position here. Underwood smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Pattis tries to hold on but Underwood pushes him away.
Underwood breaks from Pattis's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Pattis wants to hold on but Underwood pushes him away.
Underwood raining down hammerfists from mount.
Underwood blocks Pattis's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Underwood trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Pattis in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Pattis is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Underwood controlling from the full mount.
Pattis can't escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Underwood controlling the pace for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wes Underwood dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Pattis misses with a head kick.
Underwood shoots for a takedown but Pattis saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Pattis shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Underwood as he jumps to the side.
Pattis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Underwood avoids it really well and circles away.

Underwood moves into the clinch successfully.
Pattis is trying to pull guard but Underwood turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Wes Underwood has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anthony Pattis.
Underwood wants a takedown but no success here.

Pattis controlling the action here for a moment.

Underwood has hold of one of Pattis's legs. Pattis is fighting the takedown attempt but Underwood gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Underwood drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pattis manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Underwood has Pattis in his guard.
Pattis wants to control from the top but Underwood keeps moving.
Underwood on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Underwood tries to get out of the position.
Underwood can't keep his opponent in guard - Pattis advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Underwood avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Pattis.

Pattis is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pattis tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Underwood.
Pattis trying to control the action but Underwood is working from the bottom.

Pattis looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Underwood with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Pattis winds up and cracks Underwood with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Pattis wants to get back to his feet.
Pattis thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Pattis not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Pattis wants to get back to his feet.
Underwood works his way to full guard. Good work.

Underwood seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Pattis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Underwood has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pattis has managed to get both his arms back between Underwood's legs - danger averted.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Underwood keeping moving, preventing Pattis from controlling successfully.
Pattis is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Anthony Pattis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Pattis gets caught flat footed, as Underwood shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Pattis controls Underwood momentarily but Underwood frees himself.

Underwood is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Underwood has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Underwood keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Pattis's head.
Underwood slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
A bit of a lull in the action here.
Pattis wants to control but Underwood postures up.

Underwood ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Underwood no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Pattis trying to control the position from guard on top but Underwood is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Underwood wants to stand but Pattis is controlling the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Wes Underwood showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Underwood has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
