PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phillip Pirrup (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Troy Tungston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Phillip Pirrup!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Troy Tungston!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Sergei Dronov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tungston tries to clinch up.

Pirrup misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Tungston.
Pirrup will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Tungston throws a sloppy head kick and Pirrup moves out of range easily.

Pirrup has Tungston up against the ropes in a clinch.
Pirrup has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Tungston avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Tungston is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Pirrup is defending well for now.

Tungston pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Pirrup changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tungston tries to avoid it but Pirrup manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tungston to the ground. Tungston escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phillip Pirrup. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Tungston tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

and Tungston counters with a head kick that drops Pirrup to the mat! Pirrup scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!
Pirrup throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tungston's waist but Tungston gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pirrup off to one side.
Pirrup is breathing heavily.

Pirrup shoots in looking for a takedown but Tungston manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Pirrup's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Tungston wants to control from the top but Pirrup keeps moving.

Pirrup is looking for a triangle but Tungston pushes his legs off easily.

Tungston throws an elbow that misses. Pirrup uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Tungston's guard. Nice move by Pirrup!

Pirrup wants to work for an arm triangle but Tungston is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Pirrup is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Tungston defends it well.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Pirrup looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Pirrup looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Tungston with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pirrup looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Tungston with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Tungston is trying to get back to full guard.
Tungston is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Pirrup is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Tungston is refusing to be controlled, as Pirrup sits in half guard.

Troy Tungston dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Tungston wants to improve his position but Pirrup is controlling well.
Tungston is trying to control but can't.

Pirrup wants to work for an arm triangle but Tungston is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Pirrup is keen to just control but Tungston is a slippery customer.

Tungston is looking to control Pirrup's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Tungston avoid being mounted?

Pirrup seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Pirrup seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Tungston does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Tungston really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pirrup. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Pirrup is landing with some decent strikes but Tungston is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Pirrup jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Tungston is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Tungston and Pirrup has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tungston can do anything to dispel that myth.

Pirrup is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Tungston has escaped the position, nice work there.

Pirrup goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Tungston has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Pirrup but great work by Tungston.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Troy Tungston.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pirrup chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Tungston can pounce on him.

Pirrup tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Pirrup has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

And that's the end of the fight!
Troy Tungston comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tungston has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Troy Tungston was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
