Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Melvin Sledd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Howat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Melvin Sledd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Howat!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Howat drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Sledd tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Sledd pulls Howat in close to prevent any damage.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sledd is on top in guard.
Howat is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Howat keeping moving, preventing Sledd from controlling successfully.
Howat throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Howat is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Howat avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Howat pushes Sledd off and gets back to his feet.
Howat just misses with a punch to the body.
Howat misses with a body shot.

Howat shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sledd's guard.
Howat trying to control the position from guard on top but Sledd is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Sledd wants to sweep here but Howat controlling him for the moment.
Howat won't allow Sledd to get back to his feet.

Sledd not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Sledd has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Howat can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Howat gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sledd is breathing heavily.
Sledd thows a big elbow that misses.
Sledd trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Howat is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Howat working a defensive guard but Sledd manages to pass into side control anyway.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Howat is trying to get back to half guard.
Howat can't do much from the bottom here.
Howat trying his best to control but Sledd has mounted him.
Sledd unloads with some shots from mount but Howat bucks and avoids them well.

Sledd gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sledd is looking to clinch but Howat is avoiding it.
Sledd shoots and misses

and Howat counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Sledd!

Sledd tries to hold on but Howat postures up.
Howat content just to control the position here.
Sledd is looking to get to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Josh Howat dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Sledd gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Sledd is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Howat controls from within his opponent's guard.

Howat thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sledd keeping moving, preventing Howat from controlling successfully.
Howat slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Howat decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Howat avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Sledd tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Howat lands a glancing blow to the side of Sledd's head.
Howat lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

Howat forces Sledd back against the cage and clinches.
Howat's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Howat jumps into guard, dragging Sledd to the mat.
Sledd looking to sit in guard and control but Howat gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Howat wants to pass the guard but Sledd is keeping the position.
Josh Howat has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sledd wants to sweep here but Howat controlling him for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sledd is working hard here to advance position.
Sledd wants to hit a switch here but Howat passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Sledd there!

Howat is working for a guillotine from mount but Sledd frees his head quite easily.
Howat raining down shots from the mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sledd is squirming around, avoiding Howat's attempts to control the action.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Howat prevents Sledd from getting the reversal.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Howat cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Howat working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Sledd tries to lock up and control but Howat gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Josh Howat showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Sledd's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Howat shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Howat was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Howat tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Sledd is looking to improve his position but Howat isn't that keen on the idea.
Sledd bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Sledd chips away with some ground and pound.
Howat can't keep his opponent in guard - Sledd advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Sledd is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Howat defends it well.
Howat gets full guard.
Howat is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Howat looking for a guillotine here but Sledd defends easily.
Howat keeping moving, preventing Sledd from controlling successfully.

Howat looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Howat is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sledd is controlling him.

Howat throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Howat pulls Sledd in close to prevent any damage.
Howat looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Howat clinches with his opponent.

Howat gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Howat controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Howat tries to free his leg and advance position but Sledd is retaining full guard.
Melvin Sledd has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Howat is pushing down on Sledd's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sledd is fighting to maintain full guard but Howat has managed to sneak the leg through.
Howat controlling the action here.
Howat is looking to stall here but Sledd recovers full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Josh Howat comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Howat has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
