The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz falls off balance throwing a combination
and Hendricks counters with a three punch combo that has Diaz backing up. Diaz nods at Hendricks to acknowledge the strikes.
Diaz tries to clinch there but Hendricks circles away.
Diaz misses with a wild body shot.
Hendricks is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Diaz misses with a straight right.
Hendricks just misses with a punch to the body.
Hendricks misses with a hook.
Hendricks takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Diaz pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Hendricks back to the cage. Diaz follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Johny Hendricks seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hendricks paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hendricks looks to land a left hand but Diaz moved out of range nicely.
Diaz throws a head kick that misses.
Hendricks throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Diaz.
Hendricks throws a lazy uppercut
and Diaz counters with a two punch combo.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Diaz is defended easily by Hendricks.
Diaz jabs at Hendricks's body.

Hendricks throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Hendricks misses with a looping right.
Diaz misses with a looping right.
Diaz throws a one two combo.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hendricks as he avoids it easily.
Diaz is looking to clinch.
Diaz swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Hendricks.
Diaz tries to clinch up but Hendricks circles away and keeps his distance.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Hendricks!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Hendricks rushes Diaz and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Diaz manages to break the clinch.
Hendricks lands with a hook. Diaz tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hendricks as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Norman Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hendricks throws a right hand that misses
and Diaz counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Hendricks misses with a straight right.

No joy there for Hendricks, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Hendricks moves in looking to clinch but Diaz pushes him off.
Diaz displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hendricks throws out the jab.

Hendricks changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Diaz looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Hendricks decides to stand back up.

Hendricks swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Diaz.
Nice defenses there by Diaz.
Hendricks moves out of range as Diaz strikes.
Diaz ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Hendricks lands with an overhand left.

Diaz closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hendricks's guard.
Diaz lands a couple of elbows.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diaz slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hendricks can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hendricks is trying to stand and escape here. He's got onto all fours but that's just let Diaz take his back! Uh oh - Diaz has got a rear naked choke here! Hendricks is forced to tap! It's all over! One monent is all it takes in this sport!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Norman Diaz!
