PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Roman Colt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Colt might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Just What I Am. Richard Perez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Roman Colt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Richard Perez!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perez wants to clinch

so Colt counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Colt sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Perez's guard.
Colt wants to control but Perez is keeping him busy.
Perez wants to control but Colt is keeping busy.
Colt looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Colt is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Perez sees it coming and defends easily.
Colt looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Perez makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Perez.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Colt being controlled here momentarily.
Colt pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Perez is keeping the position for now.
Perez throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Colt's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Colt trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Colt drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Perez manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Colt has Perez in his guard.

Colt looking for subs off his back but Perez has passed one foot through into half guard.

Perez is looking to take a break and control but Colt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Colt tries to roll over but Perez keeps him under control.
Colt is working hard here to advance position.

Perez not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Perez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Colt does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Perez is looking to take a break and control but Colt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Perez wants to stand up but Colt has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Perez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Colt's head.

Colt regains full guard. Nicely done.

Colt working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Perez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Perez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Perez postures up in Colt's guard and throws a big left but Colt blocks it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roman Colt dominated that round.
That's time! Colt's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



A momentary lapse in concentration from Perez enables Colt to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Perez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Colt looking to sit in guard and control but Perez gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Colt is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Perez is controlling him.

Colt is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Colt looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Perez passes into half guard.

Perez seems to be working for a kimura but Colt defends the submission attempt.
Colt makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Colt.

Colt manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Perez manages to get himself to full guard.

Perez is refusing to be controlled, as Colt sits in half guard.

Colt wants to lay and pray for a moment but Perez keeps working.

Colt wants to pass to mount but Perez is defending the position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Colt trying to control the action but Perez is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Roman Colt wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Perez tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Colt was well out of range. Poor timing from Perez.

Perez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Colt tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Perez is in Colt's guard.

Colt had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Perez defends it easily.

Perez is posturing up here but Colt has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Perez tries to roll out but it's too tight and Perez has to tap! Slick submission there by Colt!

During a confident post fight interview, Roman Colt thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
