PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bart Carlton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Emil Rudnov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bart Carlton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Emil Rudnov!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Elvis Blanc and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carlton wants to clinch.
A punch combination from Carlton misses.
Rudnov slips a jab and a cross from Carlton.

Carlton gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Rudnov to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Carlton seems keen to control Rudnov's posture.
Rudnov looking to pass the guard.
Carlton has control of Rudnov's left arm, preventing Rudnov from doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bart Carlton has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Rudnov shoots in for a double leg but Carlton sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Carlton misses with a two punch combination.

Carlton darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Rudnov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Carlton stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Rudnov to get to his feet.

Carlton tries to break free but Rudnov pushes him back against the cage.

Carlton pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Carlton shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Carlton lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Rudnov wants to get back to full guard.

Rudnov is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Carlton pulls his head out easily.
Carlton throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Carlton is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Rudnov tries to roll over but Carlton keeps him under control.

Carlton performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Carlton scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carlton working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Carlton lands a nice short elbow.
Carlton prevents Rudnov from improving his position.
Carlton takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Carlton is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Carlton will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Carlton throws a strike but Rudnov avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Carlton looking to pass the guard.
Carlton is working hard here to advance position.
Carlton lands a couple of digs.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carlton is in close to Rudnov's body, working some short punches and elbows.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Rudnov doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Carlton connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Carlton fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rudnov, pushing him back against the cage.
Carlton throws a knee to the head but misses.
Carlton is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Carlton jumps into guard, dragging Rudnov to the mat.

Carlton is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Carlton pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rudnov tries for a takedown but Carlton sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Bart Carlton is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Carlton drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Bart Carlton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Emil Rudnov.
Rudnov moves in looking to clinch but Carlton pushes him off.

Carlton ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Carlton no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Carlton has Rudnov pulled in close to control his posture.
Rudnov wanted to stand there but Carlton had control of the position.
Carlton can't keep his opponent in guard - Rudnov advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Rudnov is breathing heavily.

Carlton makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Carlton closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carlton drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Rudnov gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Carlton misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Rudnov.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Carlton keeps the fight on the outside.
Horrible takedown by Carlton or perhaps it was just good defense by Rudnov which made him look bad.

Carlton pushes Rudnov up against the cage in a clinch.

Carlton escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Carlton looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Rudnov throws the kick towards the body but Carlton avoids it.
Rudnov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Carlton.
Carlton shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rudnov as he jumps to the side.
Good standup being displayed there by Rudnov as he connects with a hook.

Rudnov manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Carlton on his heels. He'll look to pass Carlton's guard now, I'm sure.

Rudnov sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Carlton's guard.
Carlton is trying to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Carlton wants to control but Rudnov is keeping busy.

Rudnov is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Carlton sees it coming and defends easily.

Carlton is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Carlton is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Rudnov scores with a couple of nice shots.

Carlton gets full guard.
Rudnov wants to stand but Carlton has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Carlton scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Rudnov tries to score a power double leg takedown but Carlton sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rudnov somewhat.

Carlton throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Rudnov tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Carlton is in Rudnov's guard.

Carlton controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Carlton sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rudnov's guard.
Nice strikes from Carlton there.
Rudnov won't allow Carlton to pass to mount.
Carlton winds up and cracks Rudnov with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Carlton passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Rudnov!

Carlton avoids the attempt from Rudnov to control.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carlton pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Bart Carlton showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Carlton has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
