PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dakota Royer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergiy Sklyar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Royer might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Speak Militant- Sabac Red. Sklyar is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Scarface - No Tears. Dakota Royer has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 14 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dakota Royer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Sergiy Sklyar!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Donald Grub and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big right from Royer misses.
Royer throws a looping overhand right but Sklyar ducks down to avoid it.
Royer misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sklyar.
Royer misses with a two punch combination.
Sklyar takes a swing at Royer's ribcage but misses.
Sklyar misses with a leg kick
and Royer counters with a nice uppercut.

Sklyar decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Sklyar throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Royer has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sklyar is working away from the top position though.
Royer is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Sklyar scores with a couple of nice shots.
Sklyar working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Sklyar displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Royer throws out the jab.

Royer is trying to control the position but Sklyar postures up.

Royer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sklyar on the ground.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sklyar cracks Royer with a solid left hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sklyar accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Sklyar is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Sklyar throws a big right hand that misses.
Sklyar postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Sklyar trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Sklyar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Royer swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sklyar is working Royer over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Royer working a defensive guard but Sklyar passes into half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Sklyar looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Royer with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Sklyar wants to control but Royer is keeping him busy.
Royer is looking to improve his position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sergiy Sklyar dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Royer takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Sklyar lands a body shot.
Sklyar changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Royer tries to avoid it but Sklyar manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Royer to the ground. Royer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sergiy Sklyar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sklyar connects with a body shot.
Sklyar fails with the takedown.

Royer throws a jab when Sklyar was well out of range.
Royer moves away from the strike by Sklyar.

Sklyar lands a slapping body shot.
Sklyar feints a jab promting Royer to slip. Sklyar then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Royer slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Royer pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sklyar shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Royer but Royer pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Dakota Royer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sergiy Sklyar.
Royer throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sklyar shoots in looking for a takedown. Royer tries to sprawl out of it but Sklyar keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Royer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Danga de danga de dang - Sklyar scores with a four punch combination!

Dakota Royer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sklyar moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Sergiy Sklyar seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Royer takes one to the chin there.
A slapping leg kick lands for Sklyar.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sklyar grinds an elbow into Royer's temple.
Oh Royer is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Sklyar has knee on belly and moves into mount.
A big strike lands for Sklyar! That's really hurt Royer and he's turned his back - Sklyar keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Sklyar jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sergiy Sklyar!
During a confident post fight interview, Sergiy Sklyar thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
