PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mariusz Korzen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leo Bernardo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bernardo is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Nyan cat. Leo Bernardo is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mariusz Korzen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Leo Bernardo!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Tiny Johnson and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bernardo slaps away a takedown attempt from Korzen, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Korzen gets caught napping as Bernardo dives in and scores a takedown. Korzen manages to retain guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Korzen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bernardo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Bernardo drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Korzen dives on top into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Korzen wants to stand and escape but instead Bernardo has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Bernardo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Korzen is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bernardo defends well.

Bernardo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Korzen manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Bernardo has Korzen in his guard.

Mariusz Korzen has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Korzen throws a sloppy head kick and Bernardo moves out of range easily.

Bernardo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Leo Bernardo hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Bernardo rushes Korzen and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Korzen throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Korzen gets to his feet - Bernardo follows without any prompting.

Korzen shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Bernardo is not content to let Korzen control the position.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Korzen decides to return to a standing position.

Korzen shoots in looking for a takedown but Bernardo manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Korzen's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Bernardo looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Bernardo throws a right and a left that Korzen avoids nicely.
Bernardo lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Bernardo misses with a head kick.
Bernardo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Korzen looks for a takedown but Bernardo sprawls well.

Korzen closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Bernardo to the mat! Bernardo manages to get full guard.
Korzen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bernardo swivels though and keeps the full guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Bernardo holds on and takes a little breather.

Korzen wants to control from the top but Bernardo keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mariusz Korzen just wasn't active enough.
Bernardo misses with the combination.
Bernardo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Korzen circles away.
Mariusz Korzen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Leo Bernardo.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bernardo pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

A close second round but Leo Bernardo will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Korzen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Bernardo tries to bum rush Korzen with a series of wild strikes but Korzen uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Bernardo.

Korzen is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bernardo sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Bernardo has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Korzen uses from the top position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mariusz Korzen.
Well Bernardo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
