Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tapout Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bas Rutten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tapout Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bas Rutten!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Paulo Santos and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva tries to clinch

and Rutten counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Rutten.

Rutten breaks from the clinch.
Silva checks a leg kick.
Silva pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Silva tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Rutten moves into the clinch.

Rutten breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Silva closes the distance looking to clinch

and Rutten moves into the clinch.
Rutten leaning his opponent against the cage.
Silva landing some nice looking knees to the body.

Rutten pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Nice takedown defense from Silva. No joy for Rutten on that attempt.
Silva shoots in looking for a takedown but Rutten manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Silva's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

and Rutten counters by clinching up.
Silva is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Silva misses with an elbow over the top.

Rutten breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Silva lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Silva.

Silva clinches up with Rutten and pushes him back against the cage.

Rutten's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Silva thuds a left hand into Rutten's body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Silva wants to clinch up but Rutten keeps it at a distance.
Silva fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tapout Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Silva sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Rutten gets a double leg takedown into Silva's guard.
Silva is breathing heavily.
Rutten throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Silva works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Rutten gets to his feet - Silva follows without any prompting.

Rutten shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Rutten trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rutten must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Rutten stands up from Silva's guard - Rutten perhaps looking for a knockout.
Silva tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Rutten moves into the clinch.

Rutten gets control of Silva's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rutten will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Rutten is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Silva drops back, looking for a kneebar! Rutten looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Rutten looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Rutten!

Rutten decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Rutten fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Rutten has Silva up against the cage in a clinch.

Rutten pulls Silva into guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silva trying to control the position from guard on top but Rutten is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Silva pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rutten is keeping the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silva misses with a takedown attempt - Rutten sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Rutten clinches up against the cage.
Rutten lands a nice knee to the body.

Rutten breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Silva shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rutten as he jumps to the side.
Rutten throws a head kick that Silva semi-blocks.
Silva misses with a body kick.
Rutten fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Silva gets underhooks to prevent Rutten's takedown attempt.

Rutten breaks from the clinch.
Rutten fails with a takedown attempt.
Tapout Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bas Rutten.

and Rutten counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Rutten.
Rutten effectively controlling the action here.
Silva is trying to push Rutten away but Rutten has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Rutten pulls guard successfully.

Rutten is looking to stand back up but Silva counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Rutten.

Silva is working for a kimura but Rutten is defending it quite comfortably.
Rutten wants to improve his position but Silva is controlling well.
Silva is looking to stall here but Rutten recovers full guard.

Rutten pulls Silva in to control the position.
Rutten looking to hit a scissor sweep but Silva is one step ahead there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rutten wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Bas Rutten has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Silva closes the distance looking to clinch

and Rutten decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Silva's guard.

Silva is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rutten defends well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silva keeping moving, preventing Rutten from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bas Rutten showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Silva ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rutten moves away.
Silva looks to clinch
and Rutten counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Rutten blocks a head kick by Silva.

Rutten feints and as Silva raises his hands in defense, Rutten changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Rutten stands and steps away. Silva gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Rutten shoots in and bounces Silva off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Rutten seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rutten trying to control but Silva is working from the bottom.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Silva looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Rutten really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Rutten stands up and waves to Silva to follow him.
Rutten shoots in looking for a takedown but Silva manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rutten's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Silva tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rutten swats him away and circles back towards the center.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rutten shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Silva as he jumps to the side.
Silva avoids the head kick by Rutten.
Rutten swats away the attempt to clinch by Silva.
Rutten stuffs the takedown.
Rutten fails to land the takedown.
Tapout Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bas Rutten.
Rutten dives in and grabs Silva's left leg, looking for a takedown. Silva pushes down on Rutten's head and hops out.
Silva fails in his attempt to clinch.

Rutten shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Silva is trying to defend but Rutten finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rutten stops Silva from getting back to his feet.

Silva throws a strike from the bottom but Rutten passes into side control!
Silva is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Silva tries to control but Rutten manages to take his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Rutten is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Silva defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Silva trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Rutten looking to break Silva's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Silva remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Rutten will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rutten somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bas Rutten comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rutten has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
