PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kupke De Vries (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Caiaphas Caine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). De Vries's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Decibel Ending!. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kupke De Vries!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Caiaphas Caine!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caine just misses with a punch to the body.

Caine misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from De Vries.

De Vries shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Caine throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Caine throws a lazy uppercut
and De Vries finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
De Vries feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Caine's calf.
De Vries ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
De Vries misses with a kick to the body
and Caine counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Kupke De Vries is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Caine lands a nice looking body shot.
Caine misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Caine throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Caine throws a leg kick but De Vries sees it coming and moves out of range.
Caine checks the leg kick nicely there.
Caine fakes high and swings low for a body shot but De Vries manages to avoid it.
Caine shoots for a takedown but De Vries saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Caine misses the shot to the body.
Caine throws a half hearted mid kick.
De Vries defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Caine.

Caine will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Caine jabbing away but nothing is landing.
De Vries connects with a jab.


It looks like Caiaphas Caine has been cut.
Caine is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down De Vries rather than just go for the knockout.
Caine throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

De Vries gets caught napping as Caine dives in and scores a takedown. De Vries manages to retain guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Caine is looking to work some ground and pound but De Vries has wrist control.
Caine stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. De Vries swivels though and keeps the full guard.
De Vries pulls Caine in close to his closed guard and prevents Caine from doing any damage or advancing position.

Caine slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

De Vries wants to get back to his feet but Caine is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Caiaphas Caine was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Caine feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits De Vriess jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Caine lands with an uppercut that bounces De Vries off the cage and back into range.
Caiaphas Caine seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
De Vries lets loose with a powerful body kick. Caine will feel that in the morning.
Caine tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but De Vries paws at him with a jab and circles away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
De Vries throws a low kick but Caine moves out of range easily.
Caine throws a head kick but De Vries moves out of range.
Nice straight punches there by Caine. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Caine.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

De Vries moves out of range of the body kick from Caine.

Caine scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Let's hope that Caine has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Caine wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by De Vries, who protects the arm well.
De Vries is not content to let Caine control the position.

Caine is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
De Vries is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Caine tries to advance to mount but can't.
Caine is looking to take a break and control but De Vries is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
De Vries wants to get back to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Caine laying and praying for a moment but De Vries takes advantage and regains half guard.
De Vries is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
De Vries regains full guard. Nicely done.
Caine throws a big right hand that misses.
Caine throwing strikes from guard but De Vries blocks nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Caiaphas Caine showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


De Vries tries to bum rush Caine with a series of wild strikes but Caine uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Caine wants to clinch.
De Vries takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
De Vries throws a half hearted mid kick.
Caine is trying hard to land a takedown here. De Vries sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
De Vries blocks a head kick by Caine.
Caiaphas Caine seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Caine misses with a wild body shot.
Caine throws a hook to the side of De Vries's head but De Vries sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Caine tries to work over De Vries's front leg with a kick but De Vries checks it.
Caine's corner calls for a 1-2. Caine obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Caine ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
De Vries tries to land a leg kick but Caine saw it coming and moves away.
De Vries has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Caine.
Caine shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says De Vries as he avoids it easily.

Caine swings for the body but De Vries moves out of range.

Caine moves away from the strike by De Vries.
De Vries throws a leg kick
and Caine counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
De Vries lets loose with a powerful body kick. Caine will feel that in the morning.
Caine shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kupke De Vries has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Caiaphas Caine.
Caine misses with a body shot.
Caine throws a predictable looking body shot
and De Vries counters with a nice uppercut.
Caine takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Caine feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to De Vries's calf.
De Vries punishes Caine's body with a nice straight punch.
Caine misses with a head kick.
Caine throws a jab when De Vries was well out of range.
Kupke De Vries has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Caine fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
De Vries throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
De Vries moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Kupke De Vries is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A left lands for De Vries.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Caine shoots for a double leg takedown but De Vries sprawls well. He's pushed Caine's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

De Vries drops Caine with a right and a left! De Vries comes rushing in but Caine regains his composure and manages to keep De Vries in guard.
De Vries postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Caine looking for a guillotine here but De Vries defends easily.

De Vries drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and De Vries jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Caine is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and De Vries defends well.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Caiaphas Caine is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
