The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Markkanen tries to clinch up.
Savage will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Savage throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

It looks like Pekka Markkanen has been cut.
Markkanen thows a body shot but no joy.

Markkanen gets a double leg takedown into Savage's guard.
Savage wants to stand and escape but Markkanen is having none of it.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
It looks like Markkanen might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Pekka Markkanen was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Markkanen is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Savage's half guard.

Markkanen tries to free his leg and advance position but Savage is retaining full guard.

Savage is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Markkanen is controlling him.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Pekka Markkanen wasn't active enough on the ground.
Savage misses with a series of wild punches.
Markkanen tries to clinch up but Savage circles away and keeps his distance.
Savage throws a front kick aimed at Markkanen's knee but Markkanen avoids it well.

Markkanen feints and as Savage raises his hands in defense, Markkanen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Savage is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Markkanen stands and throws Savage's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Markkanen in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Markkanen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Savage has escaped the position, nice work there.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Savage tries to improve position but can't.

and Savage counters with a head kick that crumples his opponent - he's in a world of trouble! Savage looks at the referee who does nothing so Savage lands a crushing right that sends Markkanen to the floor! This time the ref steps in to end the fight.
