PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex Hadjiev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Kent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kent has chosen Rooster by Alice In Chains as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alex Hadjiev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marcus Kent!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kent shoots in but Hadjiev avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Kent fails with the takedown

and Hadjiev counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Kent is looking for a sweep. Hadjiev is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Hadjiev is keen to just control but Kent is a slippery customer.
Kent is trying to stand.

Alex Hadjiev has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Hadjiev shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hadjiev showed some decent athleticism there.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hadjiev is looking to take a break and control but Kent is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Kent is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Hadjiev scores with a couple of nice shots.
Hadjiev wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kent keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Marcus Kent was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Hadjiev feints and as Kent raises his hands in defense, Hadjiev changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kent can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hadjiev controls the pace.
Hadjiev trying to control the position from guard on top but Kent is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Alex Hadjiev.

and Hadjiev counters with a shoot takedown. Kent fights it but they end up in guard.

Kent is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Alex Hadjiev overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Alex Hadjiev.
Kent shoots in but no luck this time.

Kent throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hadjiev was covering up waiting for the punch and Kent finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Kent is breathing heavily.
Kent looking to sit in guard and control but Hadjiev gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Hadjiev throws a strike but Kent rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Kent is fighting to break Hadjiev's control of his arms but Hadjiev is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Hadjiev is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Hadjiev keeping moving, preventing Kent from controlling successfully.
Hadjiev seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Kent postures up in Hadjiev's guard and throws a big left but Hadjiev blocks it.

Kent gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Kent looks for a takedown but Hadjiev sprawls well.
Alex Hadjiev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcus Kent.
Kent dives in and grabs Hadjiev's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hadjiev pushes down on Kent's head and hops out.

Hadjiev shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Hadjiev throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Alex Hadjiev will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Hadjiev feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Hadjiev won't allow Kent to get back to his feet.
Hadjiev throws a big elbow that misses.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kent can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hadjiev has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Kent wants to clinch up but Hadjiev keeps it at a distance.
Hadjiev fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Kent takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Kent misses with a takedown attempt - Hadjiev sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kent fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hadjiev avoids it really well and circles away.

Hadjiev closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Kent takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hadjiev looks up at the clock and then as Kent takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Hadjiev smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Hadjiev wants to control but Kent is keeping him busy.

Hadjiev wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kent, who protects the arm well.

Hadjiev is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kent knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Hadjiev tries to score with some ground and pound. Kent controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Marcus Kent has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Alex Hadjiev showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hadjiev, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
