Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jushin Kusanagi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anu Saukko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kusanagi comes into the arena with Got The Life blaring out of the sound system. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Jushin Kusanagi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Anu Saukko!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kusanagi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Saukko pinned against the cage. Saukko gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Saukko has his takedown stuffed

and Kusanagi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Saukko's guard.
Saukko looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Kusanagi wants to stand but Saukko has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Kusanagi has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Saukko is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kusanagi looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Kusanagi cracks Saukko with a solid left hand.

Saukko keeping busy on the bottom but Kusanagi has passed one foot through into half guard.
Saukko wants to improve his position but Kusanagi is controlling well.
Kusanagi tries to stand but can't do so whilst Saukko controls his leg.

Saukko is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Kusanagi pulls his head out easily.
Kusanagi prevents Saukko from improving his position.

Saukko looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Kusanagi pushes past his half guard into mount!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Saukko is working to get back to half guard.
Kusanagi controlling from the full mount.
Kusanagi has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Saukko is in all sorts of trouble here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Saukko is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Saukko looks gassed!
Saukko manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Kusanagi tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Saukko gets full guard.
Kusanagi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Saukko on the ground.

Saukko has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kusanagi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Kusanagi won't allow Saukko to sweep him here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kusanagi makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kusanagi postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Kusanagi gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jushin Kusanagi dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Saukko with a poor takedown

and Kusanagi counters with a takedown into side control.
Saukko tries to bench press Kusanagi off him but Kusanagi keeps the position.
Kusanagi gets to mount! Saukko was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Kusanagi controlling the position easily from mount.
Saukko tries to reverse the position but Kusanagi maintains control.
Saukko is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Saukko tries to hold on but Kusanagi pushes him away.
Saukko tries to reverse the position but Kusanagi maintains control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kusanagi looking to control and managing it successfully.
Saukko really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kusanagi takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jushin Kusanagi dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Saukko misses with a takedown

and Kusanagi counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Kusanagi controlling from the top position.

Saukko escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kusanagi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Saukko had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Kusanagi is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Saukko Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Kusanagi's back instead.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kusanagi really must keep his cool here. He's controlling one of Saukko's hands and whilst he does that, he's got a chance of escaping the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Even with his hooks in, Saukko manages to miss with strikes from the back.
Saukko somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
Saukko throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
A lull in the action here.
Kusanagi avoids the strikes from Saukko.
Saukko is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Saukko gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Saukko gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Saukko apologises and we restart here on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kusanagi is looking to clinch but Saukko is avoiding it.

Saukko tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Saukko has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Saukko wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kusanagi, who protects the arm well.

Saukko is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kusanagi has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Saukko looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Kusanagi is looking for a sweep.
Saukko works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Saukko is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kusanagi has escaped the position, nice work there.

Saukko is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Kusanagi is trying to escape and Saukko transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Kusanagi is forced to tap! Nice work there by Saukko! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Anu Saukko!
