PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between John Dodson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and TJ Dillashaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dillashaw has chosen Jump Around-House of Pain as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dodson lands with an overhand left.

Dillashaw moves in looking to clinch but Dodson pushes him off.
Dodson paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Dillashaw slaps away a takedown attempt from Dodson, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Dillashaw has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Dodson finds it's way round the side to connect with Dillashaw's head.

Dillashaw gets a double leg takedown into Dodson's guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Dodson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dillashaw as he jumps to the side.
Dodson lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Dillashaw fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Dillashaw takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Dodson bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
A left lands for Dodson.
Dodson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Dillashaw gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Dodson swings for the body but Dillashaw moves out of range.
Dodson lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Dodson throws a right hand that Dillashaw ducks under and follows up with a left that Dillashaw also avoids with ease.
Dillashaw doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Dodson counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Nice body punch from Dodson.

Dillashaw moves in looking to clinch but Dodson pushes him off.
Dodson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Dillashaw has picked Dodson up - he's going for a ride! Dillashaw dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Dillashaw misses with a takedown attempt - Dodson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dillashaw throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dodson's waist but Dodson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dillashaw off to one side.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The fight stays on the outside here - Dillashaw looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Dillashaw tries to score a power double leg takedown but Dodson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Dillashaw somewhat.

John Dodson is winning the standup battle so far.
Dillashaw changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dodson tries to avoid it but Dillashaw manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dodson to the ground. Dodson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
No joy there for Dodson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Dodson thuds his right hand into Dillashaw's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Dillashaw is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Dodson can't fight it off and eventually Dillashaw manages to take the fight to the floor. Dodson looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Dodson uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Dillashaw has time to react.
Dodson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Dillashaw moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that John Dodson will probably get the nod.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Dodson, as that shot connected.

Dodson tries to keep at a distance but Dillashaw has taken the fight into the clinch.
Dillashaw is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Dillashaw jumps guard and drags Dodson to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Dillashaw is pulling down on Dodson's head. It's preventing any offense from Dodson, at least for the moment.

Dodson is in close to Dillashaw's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Dillashaw uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Dillashaw is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Dodson's half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Dillashaw in particular looking to stall.

Dillashaw thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

TJ Dillashaw comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dillashaw has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
