PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Kinsey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Freddy Edwards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Edwards is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Take That-Shine. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, William Gold and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edwards swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Edwards tries to clinch up.

Kinsey gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Kinsey lands an elbow that stopped Edwards in his tracks for a moment.


It looks like Freddy Edwards has been cut.
Edwards scores with a shoulder strike.
Edwards is looking to break free of the clinch but Kinsey has double underhooks.
Edwards blocks an uppercut.
Edwards is working for takedown but Kinsey is calmly controlling the position for now.
Kinsey looking to throw knees to the head but Edwards is blocking nicely.

Edwards has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kinsey uses from the top position.
Kinsey lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Kinsey is looking to work some ground and pound but Edwards has wrist control.

Edwards had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Kinsey is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Edwards Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Kinsey's back instead.

Kinsey defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Edwards's arms.

Edwards is throwing strikes by Kinsey counters by rolling into a better position. After a scramble, Kinsey regains half guard.
Kinsey pushes Edwards off looking to stand but Edwards dives back in and keeps control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Edwards thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kinsey's head.

Kinsey pushes Edwards off and gets back to his feet.
Edwards darts in trying to clinch

and Kinsey counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Kinsey decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Edwards throws a lazy head kick

and Kinsey counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Kinsey lands a knee to the body.
Edwards is trying to break the clinch but Kinsey has him pressed against the cage.

Kinsey escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Edwards takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

and Edwards counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Kinsey closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kinsey lands in his opponent's guard.
Edwards is trying to keep Kinsey in close.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Edwards wants to sweep but no luck.

Edwards is working an open guard so Kinsey takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Kinsey rushes Edwards and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

and Kinsey decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Edwards's guard.
Edwards is trying to control the position but Kinsey postures up.
Kinsey missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Edwards keeping moving, preventing Kinsey from controlling successfully.
Kinsey postures up in Edwards's guard and throws a big left but Edwards blocks it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kinsey looking to sit in guard and control but Edwards gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kinsey darts in and clinches Edwards up against the cage.
Edwards tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kinsey smiles and moves away.
Kinsey will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Edwards shoots for a takedown but Kinsey saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Edwards swats away the attempt to clinch by Kinsey.
Kinsey circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kinsey tries to clinch but Edwards moves away
and Edwards counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Kinsey darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Edwards is refusing to be controlled, as Kinsey sits in half guard.

Kinsey has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Edwards is desperately trying to improve his position but Kinsey has a good base and remains in mount.
Kinsey lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Edwards gets back to half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Edwards manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Edwards is looking to stand up but Kinsey isn't so interested in that idea.
Edwards manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Kinsey is squirming around, avoiding Edwards's attempts to control the action.
Kinsey swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

Kinsey changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Edwards tries to avoid it but Kinsey manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Edwards to the ground. Edwards escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kinsey throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Edwards keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Kinsey wants to clinch.
Edwards fails to land with a series of punches.
Kinsey wants to clinch up but Edwards keeps it at a distance.
Kinsey misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Edwards shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kinsey as he avoids it easily.

letting Edwards counter with a right hand.
Kinsey steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Edwards. That one must have hurt.
Edwards shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kinsey as he jumps to the side.

Kinsey closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Edwards to the mat! Edwards manages to get full guard.

Kinsey distracts Edwards with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Edwards is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kinsey gets to his feet. Edwards looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Edwards shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kinsey as he avoids it easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kinsey tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Edwards counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Kinsey gets in close and instigates a clinch.

A bone on bone clash there as Kinsey blocks the leg kick.
Freddy Edwards seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Edwards misses with a wild body shot.

and Kinsey counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Edwards's guard now.
Edwards is looking to stand back up but Kinsey counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Edwards.

Kinsey escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Edwards is pressing down on Kinsey's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Kinsey stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Edwards misses with a combination

and Kinsey holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Kinsey jumps guard but Edwards stands there with Kinsey around his waist. Kinsey gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Kinsey prevents Edwards from breaking the clinch.
Edwards looking for a takedown.
Edwards tries to break the clinch but Kinsey is controlling the position.

Kinsey is trying to trip Edwards. He has hold of a leg but Edwards is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Kinsey persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Edwards wants to stand but Kinsey is controlling the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kinsey is in close to Edwards's body, working some short punches and elbows.

And that's the end of the fight!
James Kinsey showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kinsey, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
