The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maverick lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Burkman backs up against the ropes.
Maverick tries to score a power double leg takedown but Burkman sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Maverick somewhat.
Maverick keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Burkman misses with a takedown attempt
and Maverick counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Burkman has managed to clinch.
Maverick is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Seth Maverick has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carlos Burkman.
Burkman throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Burkman is fighting off a takedown attempt but Maverick is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Burkman to the mat. Burkman regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Maverick won't allow Burkman to get back to his feet.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Burkman is on top in guard.
Maverick is trying to hold Burkman in close to prevent damage but Burkman has managed to pass into half guard.

Maverick tries to kick Burkman off but Burkman keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Burkman seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Maverick does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Maverick defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Burkman.

Burkman darts in and clinches Maverick up against the ropes.

Maverick breaks from the clinch.

Maverick manages to pull guard.
Maverick avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Burkman throws a big right hand that misses.
Burkman trying to control the position from guard on top but Maverick is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Carlos Burkman was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Maverick shoots in for a double leg but Burkman sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Nice takedown defense from Maverick. No joy for Burkman on that attempt.

Burkman clinches with his opponent.

Maverick wants the takedown. Burkman is fighting it off but Maverick persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Burkman's guard against the ropes.
Burkman controls Maverick momentarily but Maverick frees himself.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Maverick prevents Burkman from getting back to his feet.

Burkman has his feet on Maverick's thighs here. He's pushed Maverick off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Maverick screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
