PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mike Bansa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derrick Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Derrick Williams was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Bansa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Derrick Williams!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bansa connects with the punch.
Mike Bansa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bansa rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Williams moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Bansa misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Williams.

Williams is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Bansa's half guard.

Bansa is defending against the submission attempts here by Williams.
Williams throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Bansa to regain full guard.

Bansa pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

It looks like Derrick Williams has been cut.
Williams swats away the attempt to clinch by Bansa.

Bansa rushes Williams and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Bansa tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Williams paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Bansa lands a left and a right that send Williams crashing to the mat, dazed. Bansa thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Williams's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Bansa wants to get back to his feet but Williams is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Williams throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bansa works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Bansa keeping moving, preventing Williams from controlling successfully.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Derrick Williams.
Bansa throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Williams throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Bansa was covering up waiting for the punch and Williams finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Bansa has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Williams off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Williams shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bansa sprawls well. Bansa wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Williams gets slowly back to his feet.

Bansa stuns Williams with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Bansa tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Williams paws at him with a jab and circles away.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bansa has had enough of the clinch but Williams keeps him there for the moment.
Bansa lands a good knee to the midsection. Williams won't want to take too many of those.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Bansa just misses with a elbow thrown towards Williams's brow.

Williams decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Williams takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Williams stalling away here and it's allowed Bansa to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Williams can do anything to dispel that myth.

Williams takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Bansa's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
