Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mikhail Nis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gary Ablett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ablett misses with a takedown

and Nis counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Nis wants to pass the guard but Ablett is defending well.
Nis is working hard here to advance position.
Nis working over Ablett with some ground and pound. Ablett looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Nis trying to control the action but Ablett is working from the bottom.
Nis wants to pass the guard but Ablett is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ablett keeping moving, preventing Nis from controlling successfully.

Nis cracks Ablett with a solid left hand.
Ablett wants to sweep but no luck.

Nis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Nis keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ablett's head.

Nis postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ablett is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Nis, into his guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nis looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ablett is one step ahead there.

Ablett trying to control but Nis is working from the bottom.
Ablett is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Ablett got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ablett has managed to get both his arms back between Nis's legs - danger averted.
Nis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Nis is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ablett throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Nis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Nis throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Ablett escapes and throws Nis's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Nis is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Ablett has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Gary Ablett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This has been an exciting period of action!

and Nis counters with a nice double leg into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nis lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Nis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ablett swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ablett fails with an attempt to clinch.
Some wild striking there from Ablett.
Ablett misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Nis.
Gary Ablett is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ablett shoots in but no luck this time.
Nis avoids the body shot from Ablett.
Nis defending well as Ablett loads up on a big left hand.
Ablett motions for Nis to come forward. Ablett throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Ablett shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Nis sprawls well. Nis wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ablett gets slowly back to his feet.

Ablett fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Nis manages to avoid it.
Ablett shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Nis pinned against the cage. Nis gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Mikhail Nis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gary Ablett.
Nis avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ablett throws a leg kick but Nis sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Ablett tries to clinch up but Nis circles away and keeps his distance.

Mikhail Nis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Nis lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Nis is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Ablett can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Nis lands a big shot there that rocks Ablett but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Nis can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ablett is looking to escape.
Nis lands a big elbow.
Nis lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Ablett is bucking up trying to escape but Nis cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Nis connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Nis postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Ablett looks a forlorn figure.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Ablett gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Nis decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ablett's guard.
Nis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ablett swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ablett keeping moving, preventing Nis from controlling successfully.
Nis with a nice head shot there.

Ablett has his foot on Nis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nis works his way back into a safe position though.
Nis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ablett swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Nis connects with a nice short shot to Ablett's temple.
Nis is looking to take a break and control but Ablett is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ablett takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Ablett gets back to full guard.
Nis pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ablett is keeping the position for now.
Nis wants to control from the top but Ablett keeps moving.
Nis passes Ablett's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Nis is pressing down on Ablett's thigh, looking to free his foot. Ablett is holding on for now.

Nis lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Nis wants to pass the guard but Ablett is defending well.

Ablett is in trouble now - Nis has advanced to mount!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Ablett tries to get to full guard but Nis has control of the leg.
Nis is keen to just control but Ablett is a slippery customer.
Nis tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ablett knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Ablett is staying active underneath Nis, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Nis is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ablett doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Nis.

Nis wants to take a breather but Ablett is having none of it.

Nis slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nis cracks Ablett with a big right hand but Ablett just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Nis scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Ablett to see if he's OK.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mikhail Nis showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Nis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
