PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Antonio Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Royce Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva comes into the arena with Jiu-Jitsu Song - Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blaring out of the sound system. Antonio Silva could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Royce Lesnar's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Royce Lesnar!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Seu Braga and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lesnar has managed to clinch.
Silva is trying to force a seperation but Lesnar has the dominant position.
Lesnar lands a nice knee to the body.

Lesnar gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Silva regains guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Lesnar is looking to stand up but Silva won't let him.
Lesnar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Silva swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Silva fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Lesnar closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.

Lesnar has hold of one of Silva's legs. Silva is fighting the takedown attempt but Lesnar gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Silva is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Lesnar wants to get up but he can't break Silva's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Lesnar gets to his feet - Silva follows without any prompting.

Lesnar pushes off an throws an elbow but Silva leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the ropes.

Lesnar wants to stand but Silva is controlling his arm.
Lesnar is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Lesnar scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Silva to see if he's OK.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lesnar wants to stand but Silva has his arm trapped.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lesnar wants to control but Silva is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Royce Lesnar dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Lesnar misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Silva.

Lesnar moves in looking to clinch but Silva pushes him off.

and Silva counters with a leg kick.

Silva jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Lesnar walks away with a smile on his face. Silva gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Lesnar stands up and beckons Silva to his feet.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Silva tries to pull guard but Lesnar won't allow it.

Royce Lesnar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Lesnar closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lesnar lands in his opponent's guard.
Lesnar has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Silva is proving hard to escape from.
Royce Lesnar has got the better of the ground game so far.

Silva is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Lesnar passes Silva's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Lesnar wants to stand up but Silva has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Still in half guard, Lesnar seems content to control.

Silva is looking for a sweep. Lesnar is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Lesnar landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Lesnar should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Silva has hold of Lesnar's hands but Lesnar slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Lesnar perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Lesnar wants to get back to his feet.

Lesnar is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Silva has managed to free his arm - good work.
Silva is trying to get back to full guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Royce Lesnar hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Lesnar tries to land a front kick but Silva steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Lesnar has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Silva!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Antonio Silva has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Royce Lesnar is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Lesnar has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
