PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kirigaya Kazuto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Otto Varjo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Otto Varjo!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Wagner Zegers and Paul Aken.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kazuto circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kazuto tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Varjo manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kazuto moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Varjo misses with an attempted mid kick.
Varjo stuffs the takedown attempt from Kazuto. Kazuto gets slowly back to his feet.

Varjo gets a clinch.

Varjo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Varjo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kazuto's waist but Kazuto gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Varjo off to one side.
Varjo misses with a few strikes there.
Varjo misses with a series of wild punches.

Varjo looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Kazuto wants to get back to his feet.
Kazuto knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Varjo on the ground.
Kazuto is breathing heavily.

Varjo is taking a breather. Kazuto says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Varjo working over Kazuto with some ground and pound. Kazuto looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Varjo wants to stand but Kazuto has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Varjo slows the pace down in half guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Otto Varjo hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Varjo checks the leg kick.

Varjo clinches with his opponent.
Varjo can't get the takedown.
Varjo doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Kazuto jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Varjo walks away with a smile on his face. Kazuto gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Kazuto changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Varjo tries to avoid it but Kazuto manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Varjo to the ground. Varjo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kirigaya Kazuto. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Varjo counters with a nice leg kick.

Varjo takes the fight into the clinch.

Varjo decides to pull guard.

Varjo has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Varjo wants to sweep here but Kazuto controlling him for the moment.
Varjo has Kazuto pulled in close to control his posture.
Kazuto is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Varjo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kazuto doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Varjo is tightening it up a little... Kazuto has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Kazuto reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Kazuto taps out! Nice BJJ there by Varjo!

Otto Varjo was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
