PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jed Masilungan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Freddy Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Masilungan comes to the cage accompanied by Return to Strength. Alves has chosen Trik Turner - Friends and Family as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Masilungan scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Alves throws a right hand that misses
and Masilungan cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Alves connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Alves with a lazy takedown attempt
and Masilungan counters with a head kick.
Masilungan throws a right hand that Alves ducks under and follows up with a left that Alves also avoids with ease.
Masilungan throws an overhand right that lands on Alves's shoulder, as Alves tries to avoid the shot.

Alves fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Masilungan trying to keep a closed guard but Alves is proving a slippery customer.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Alves's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Alves throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Masilungan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Alves slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alves prevents Masilungan from getting back to his feet.

Alves is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Alves controls Masilungan momentarily but Masilungan frees himself.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nice defenses there by Masilungan.
Masilungan takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Alves shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Masilungan defends it nicely.
Jed Masilungan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Freddy Alves.
Masilungan lands a glancing blow to the side of Alves's head.
Alves steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Masilungan.
Alves checks the leg kick nicely there.
Masilungan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Masilungan uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Alves shoots in looking for a takedown but Masilungan manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Alves's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Masilungan throws the kick towards the body but Alves avoids it.

Masilungan wants to get back to striking at distance but Alves won't allow it.

Alves is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Masilungan slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

and Alves counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Masilungan leaves Alves with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Freddy Alves is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sloppy strikes from Alves. Those never looked like landing.
Alves shoots in looking for a takedown. Masilungan tries to sprawl out of it but Alves keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Masilungan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Alves uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Masilungan.
Masilungan does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Masilungan throws a sloppy head kick and Alves moves out of range easily.

Masilungan defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Alves.
Jed Masilungan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Freddy Alves.
Masilungan displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Alves throws out the jab.

Horrible takedown by Masilungan or perhaps it was just good defense by Alves which made him look bad.

Alves might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Alves throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Masilungan.
Masilungan displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Alves.

Alves fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Masilungan to the ground. Alves is now in Masilungan's guard.
Alves postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Masilungan wants to sweep here but Alves controlling him for the moment.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Alves got a little sloppy there for a moment and Masilungan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Alves has managed to get both his arms back between Masilungan's legs - danger averted.

Freddy Alves showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Masilungan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Masilungan fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Alves has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Masilungan pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Alves back to the cage. Masilungan follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Alves swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Masilungan pivots, looking for a leg kick but Alves is out of range and Masilungan settles back down.

Alves tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Masilungan swivels and escapes.

Alves fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Masilungan manages to avoid it.
Masilungan tries to land a front kick but Alves steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Masilungan lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
