PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bob Stockdale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franklin Ridger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bob Stockdale!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Franklin Ridger!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Paul Tew and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ridger shoots for a takedown but Stockdale saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Stockdale slips a jab and a cross from Ridger.

Stockdale bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Stockdale throws an elbow but Ridger slips to the side and avoids it well.
Ridger is not content to let Stockdale control the position.
Ridger is looking for a sweep.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ridger can do anything to dispel that myth.
Ridger gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Ridger is looking to get to half guard.

Ridger really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stockdale. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Stockdale content to control rather than advance.

Stockdale is tying to control. Ridger wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Stockdale trying to pass the guard but Ridger defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Ridger shoots in for a takedown but Stockdale shows good takedown defense.

Stockdale has taken the fight to the clinch.
Ridger is trying to stall.

Stockdale breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Stockdale misses with a double jab

and Ridger counters with a takedown into side control.
Stockdale is breathing heavily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Stockdale is looking for a sweep.

Ridger wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stockdale keeps working.
Ridger tries to stand but Stockdale is controlling his head.
Ridger creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Stockdale is trying to get back to his feet.
Stockdale trying to remain calm as Ridger controls from the top position.
Ridger wants to stand but Stockdale is controlling his arm.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Danga de danga de dang - Ridger scores with a four punch combination!

Ridger shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Ridger is tying to control. Stockdale wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stockdale is looking for a sweep. Ridger is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Stockdale is not content to let Ridger control the position.
It looks like Ridger is going to stand back up.
Ridger is keen to just control but Stockdale is a slippery customer.
Ridger tries to stand but can't do so whilst Stockdale controls his leg.
Stockdale is pressing down on Ridger's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Franklin Ridger will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Ridger scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Stockdale moves into full guard.

Stockdale has his feet on Ridger's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Stockdale takes the fight into the clinch.
Stockdale is working for takedown but Ridger is calmly controlling the position for now.
Stockdale lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Ridger.

Stockdale manages to break the clinch.
Stockdale shoots for a double leg takedown but Ridger sprawls well. He's pushed Stockdale's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Stockdale thows a left - swing and a miss!

Stockdale closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Stockdale lands in his opponent's guard.

Ridger had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Stockdale is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Ridger Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Stockdale's back instead.

Ridger is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Stockdale defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Stockdale tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Ridger lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Stockdale hang on?
Ridger controlling the pace for now.
Stockdale is trying to stand.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Stockdale tries to lock up and control but Ridger gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Stockdale tries to reverse the position but Ridger maintains control.
The referee warns Stockdale that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Stockdale tries to buck Ridger off but he can't manage it.

Ridger looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
A nice elbow there by Ridger.
Franklin Ridger has got the better of the ground game so far.

Stockdale manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Ridger content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Stockdale has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ridger is working away from the top position though.
Stockdale is looking to improve his position.
Ridger wants to control but Stockdale is keeping him busy.
Stockdale wants to control but Ridger is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Stockdale tries to roll over but Ridger keeps him under control.
Ridger tries to pass to full mount but Stockdale defends it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Stockdale gets full guard.

Stockdale looking for a triangle here. Ridger is fighting it but it looks tight! Stockdale pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Ridger is tapping out - this one is all over!
