No luck with that takedown attempt from Pilgrim.

Grey drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Grey slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Kai Grey has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Pilgrim shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Grey sprawls well. Grey wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Pilgrim gets slowly back to his feet.

Nice takedown defense from Grey. No joy for Pilgrim on that attempt.
Kai Grey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Billy Pilgrim.

Grey shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Pilgrim manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Grey passes Pilgrim's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Still in half guard, Grey seems content to control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pilgrim reaches up to try and control the position but Grey seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Pilgrim rolls and tries to escape and now Grey has his back!

Grey is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Pilgrim defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Grey has the hooks in. Pilgrim is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
I would not like to be Pilgrim right now.

Grey is working for a rear naked choke. Pilgrim is not defending it well and Grey has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Pilgrim refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Pilgrim's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Kai Grey!
