PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rocky Olzzen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by 50 Cent - God Gave Me Style. Rocky Olzzen will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rocky Olzzen!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Olzzen napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Olzzen is being controlled here.
Olzzen is looking for a sweep.
Jones looks up at the clock and then as Olzzen takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Jones smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Jones really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Olzzen is trying to improve his position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Olzzen is looking to reverse the position.

Jones is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Olzzen has escaped the position, nice work there.

Jones stands up.

Olzzen comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Olzzen blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Olzzen is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Jones to keep the fight standing.
Olzzen using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Jones has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Jones is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Olzzen gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Olzzen jumps guard and drags Jones to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Olzzen is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Jones loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Jones drops back looking for a leg! Olzzen is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Olzzen manages to kick Jones off! Jones jumps back into Olzzen's guard.
Olzzen not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Jones has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Olzzen tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Jones postures up.
Olzzen wants to get back to his feet but Jones is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Jones drives through and clinches with Olzzen against the cage.
Olzzen tries to pull guard but Jones holds him up against the cage and eventually Olzzen drops back down to his feet.

Jones's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Olzzen, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Olzzen against the cage but Olzzen circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Olzzen fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Jones takes the fight into the clinch.
Olzzen stops a takedown attempt from Jones.
Olzzen lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Olzzen's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Olzzen is trying to break the clinch but Jones has him pressed against the cage.
Olzzen gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Jones.
Jones keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Olzzen's efforts to push away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Olzzen scores with a knee to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Jones dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Jones shoots in for a double leg but Olzzen sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Olzzen misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Olzzen throws a nice inside leg kick.
Nice sprawl there from Jones as Olzzen shoots in.

Jones shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Olzzen is trying to control but Jones passes into side control!
Olzzen can't do much from the bottom here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Olzzen tries to bench press Jones off him but Jones keeps the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Olzzen gets back to half guard.
Jones wants to control but Olzzen is keeping him busy.
John Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jones looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Jones sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Olzzen defending well though.
Olzzen looks like he's trying to stand up.

Olzzen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Jones seems to be looking for submissions.

Olzzen keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Jones content to control rather than advance.

Olzzen tries to roll over but Jones keeps him under control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Jones looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Olzzen with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Olzzen is not content to let Jones control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of John Jones.
Jones keeps the fight on the outside.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Olzzen's waist but Olzzen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side.
Olzzen is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Olzzen is defended easily by Jones.
John Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rocky Olzzen.

Olzzen is pushing Jones's head away, looking to escape. Jones manages to hold on to the position though.
Olzzen is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Jones's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Olzzen wants to get back to his feet.
Jones is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Olzzen tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.

Jones is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Olzzen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jones manages to get himself to full guard.
Olzzen wants to stand and escape but instead Jones has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Jones is looking to work some ground and pound but Olzzen has wrist control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Olzzen is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Jones got a little sloppy there for a moment and Olzzen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jones has managed to get both his arms back between Olzzen's legs - danger averted.

Olzzen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jones is controlling him.

John Jones has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Jones darts in and clinches Olzzen up against the cage.
Olzzen jumps guard but Jones turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Jones as Olzzen tries to tie him up.
Olzzen stops a takedown attempt from Jones.
Olzzen lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Olzzen is trying to force a seperation but Jones has the dominant position.
Olzzen lands a good knee to the midsection. Jones won't want to take too many of those.

Jones tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Jones stands up from Olzzen's guard - Jones perhaps looking for a knockout.
Olzzen throws a head kick but Jones moves out of range.

Jones closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Olzzen to the mat! Olzzen manages to get full guard.
Jones is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Olzzen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jones avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Jones scoring with punches to the head and body.
John Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Jones not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Jones gets to his feet. Olzzen looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jones moves into range and clinches up with Olzzen.
Olzzen stalling in the clinch but Jones improves position.
Rocky Olzzen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Olzzen lands an elbow inside that Jones shrugs off.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Jones showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jones, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
