PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Capone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Sharpie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Capone kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Ima Gangsta. Rick Sharpie is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Rick Sharpie!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, James Ackerman and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Capone shoots in and drives through. Sharpie sprawls well.
Capone fails with a takedown attempt.
Sharpie stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jimmy Capone. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sharpie showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Capone.
Sharpie leaves Capone with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Capone shoots in looking for a takedown but Sharpie manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Capone's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Capone jumps into guard, dragging Sharpie to the mat.
Capone wants to stand and escape but Sharpie is having none of it.
Sharpie has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Capone is proving hard to escape from.
Capone is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Sharpie dives into side control.

Capone throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Sharpie throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Capone is trying to stall.
Sharpie with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jimmy Capone will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Capone will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Sharpie fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Capone to the ground. Sharpie is now in Capone's guard.
Capone wants to stand but Sharpie is controlling the position.

Capone pushes Sharpie off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Capone misses with a takedown attempt - Sharpie sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Capone throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Rick Sharpie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Capone throws a hook to the side of Sharpie's head but Sharpie sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Capone throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sharpie's waist but Sharpie gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Capone off to one side.

Sharpie drives through and clinches with Capone against the cage.
Capone has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sharpie is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Sharpie throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Capone blocks it with crossed arms.
Sharpie throws a knee to the head but misses.

Sharpie with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Capone jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sharpie walks away with a smile on his face. Capone gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Capone closes the distance and pushes Sharpie back into the cage.
Capone is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Sharpie is defending well.
Sharpie tries a knee to the head but Capone blocks it.
Sharpie lands a right hand that snaps the head of Capone backwards.
Capone looking for a takedown.
Sharpie misses with a knee to the head.
Capone drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sharpie pulls his leg out and moves away.

Sharpie scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Sharpie stops Capone from getting back to his feet.

Sharpie decides to stand and escape the position.

Sharpie looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Capone!
Capone wants to get back to his feet but Sharpie is dominant here and he's now got Capone's back!

Capone looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.

Sharpie decides to get back to his feet. A strange decision but one that the crowd certainly appreciate.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Sharpie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That kick from Sharpie tenderised Capone's leg. Capone is trying to keep his angry face on.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Capone kicks off Sharpie and gets to his feet.
Sharpie stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sharpie wants it to stay on the feet.

Sharpie gets a takedown into half guard.
Capone pushes Sharpie off looking to stand but Sharpie dives back in and keeps control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sharpie tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Capone tries to kick Sharpie off but Sharpie keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jimmy Capone just wasn't active enough.
Sharpie stuffs the takedown attempt from Capone. Capone gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jimmy Capone. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sharpie drives through with a takedown into Capone's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Sharpie stops Capone from standing up.
Capone is wriggling around but Sharpie manages to pass to half guard.

Capone kicks off Sharpie and gets to his feet.

Sharpie looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Sharpie decides to stand up.

Capone gets caught napping as Sharpie dives in and scores a takedown. Capone manages to retain guard.

Sharpie stands and steps away. Capone gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sharpie closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Capone manages to pull guard.

Sharpie decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rick Sharpie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sharpie has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
