PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Barry Badridge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julian Assange (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Assange has chosen Date Rape as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Barry Badridge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Julian Assange!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Assange digs a good hook to Badridge's body.
Badridge moves out of range of the leg kick from Assange.
Badridge lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Badridge.
Assange changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Badridge tries to avoid it but Assange manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Badridge to the ground. Badridge escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Badridge throws a poor cross that misses
and Assange cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Assange throws a leg kick that misses.
Assange works the jab nicely.
Badridge misses with a right hand

and Assange counters with a nice double leg into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Assange cracks Badridge with a solid left hand.

Badridge is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Assange slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Assange postures up in Badridge's guard and throws a big left but Badridge blocks it.
Assange trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Assange trying to control the position from guard on top but Badridge is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Assange is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Julian Assange has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Badridge gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Assange to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Assange with a flurry of punches that miss.
Badridge wants to hit a switch here but Assange passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Badridge there!
Badridge tries to hold on but Assange pushes him away.

Badridge keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Assange wants to control the pace but Badridge is squirming around nicely.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Assange can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Badridge is looking to escape.

Badridge tries to lock up and control but Assange gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Badridge is looking to get to half guard.
Assange in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Badridge is desperately trying to improve his position but Assange has a good base and remains in mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Assange looking to control but Badridge is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Julian Assange dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

It looks like Julian Assange has been cut.
Assange shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Assange misses with a looping right.
Barry Badridge is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Badridge is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Assange.

Assange drives through with a takedown into Badridge's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Assange misses with a head shot. Badridge uses the momentum to regain guard.

Assange looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Assange working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Assange is looking to take a break and control but Badridge is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Badridge won't allow Assange to pass to mount.
Assange is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

You can see the frustration on Badridge's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Assange wants to lay and pray for a moment but Badridge keeps working.
Badridge takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Julian Assange showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Julian Assange's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

No joy there for Badridge, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Assange shoots for a double leg takedown but Badridge sprawls well. He's pushed Assange's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Assange counters with an outside leg kick.
Assange misses with a takedown attempt - Badridge sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Assange tries to score a power double leg takedown but Badridge sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Assange somewhat.
Barry Badridge has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Julian Assange.

Badridge tries to close the distance and clinch up but Assange swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Assange will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Badridge lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Badridge is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Assange rolls with it to try and escape but Badridge cranks on the arm and Assange is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Barry Badridge!
Barry Badridge spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
