Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chad Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cisco Gomez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cisco Gomez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Frank Dennis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Mendes closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Gomez wants to get back to his feet.
Gomez has hold of Mendes's hands but Mendes slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Gomez is trying to escape back to his feet but Mendes uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Mendes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mendes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Gomez is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mendes asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Mendes is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gomez knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Gomez pushes Mendes away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mendes gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Gomez is pushing Mendes's head away, looking to escape. Mendes manages to hold on to the position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendes grinds an elbow into Gomez's temple.

Gomez is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Mendes is controlling him well.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mendes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gomez, who protects the arm well.
Gomez pushes Mendes away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mendes gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Mendes is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gomez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Mendes working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Gomez wants to get back to his feet but Mendes is dominant here and he's now got Gomez's back!
Gomez is really stuck here.

Mendes is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Gomez has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Mendes has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Gomez taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Mendes doesn't care though - he's delighted!
