PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Hua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Einar Haugen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Haugen has chosen Blood Rave ! as his entrance music. Einar Haugen will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Hua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Einar Haugen!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Aafke Stam and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haugen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hua pinned against the cage. Hua gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hua goes for a double leg but Haugen avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Haugen continues to drive forward.
Haugen misses with a knee strike.

Hua escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Haugen is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hua's half guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Haugen wants to control but Hua is keeping him busy.
Haugen prevents Hua from improving his position.

Haugen decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Hua tries to clinch up.

Hua bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Haugen is looking for a sweep.

You can see the frustration on Haugen's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
What's Haugen going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Haugen is trying to control Hua's posture but Hua avoids it.
Hua tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Haugen tries to bench press Hua off him but Hua keeps the position.
Haugen is letting Hua control him for a moment.

You can see the frustration on Haugen's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Haugen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hua wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Hua tries to stand but Haugen is controlling his head.

Hua is trying to get an arm triangle but Haugen is defending well.
Hua is looking to take a break and control but Haugen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Haugen manages to get back to half guard.
Haugen is looking to improve his position.
Haugen manages to get to full guard.
Haugen is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hua might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Haugen pulls Hua in close to prevent any damage.

Hua tries to free his leg and advance position but Haugen is retaining full guard.
Hua tries to stand but Haugen is controlling from the bottom.
Hua trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Haugen not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Einar Haugen wasn't active enough on the ground.
Hua fails with the takedown
and Hua takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Hua is breathing heavily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Haugen tries to clinch up.

Haugen gets in close and instigates a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Einar Haugen dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Haugen moves into range and clinches up with Hua.
Hua keeps control of Haugen as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Haugen breaks from the clinch.
Haugen wants to clinch but Hua slips to the side

and Hua counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Hua.
Haugen is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Haugen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hua manages to get himself to full guard.
Hua wants to stand but Haugen is controlling the position.

Hua is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hua is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Haugen is aware though and is defending well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Haugen trying to stand up but can't free himself from Hua's guard.
Haugen postures up.
Haugen stays in close to Hua's body and controls the position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Haugen stands up and waves to Hua to follow him.

Haugen gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Haugen managing to block the knees to the body from Hua.
A short uppercut from Haugen.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hua is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Hua tries to score a body lock takedown but Haugen shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Hua throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Haugen blocks it with crossed arms.

Haugen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hua circles away from the clinch attempt.
Haugen ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Haugen doesn't manage to clinch there - Hua circles away.
Haugen throws a series of strikes that have Hua backpedaling.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hua throws a low kick but it's checked well by Haugen.

Haugen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hua looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Haugen decides to stand back up. Haugen steps back and let's Hua get back to his feet.
Haugen swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Haugen throws a series of punches but Hua moves out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Haugen gets a clinch.

Haugen pulls Hua into guard.
Haugen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Haugen wants to stand but Hua is controlling the position.

Haugen tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hua postures up in Haugen's guard and throws a big left but Haugen blocks it.

Haugen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hua doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hua manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hua trying to control the position from guard on top but Haugen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of David Hua.
A punch lands to the side of Hua 's head but he takes it in his stride.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Einar Haugen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Haugen tries to clinch but Hua is having none of it.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Haugen enables Hua to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Haugen manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Hua has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Haugen is proving hard to escape from.

Haugen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hua gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Haugen is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Haugen uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Hua fails with a takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hua is trying hard to land a takedown here. Haugen sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Haugen tries to clinch but Hua is having none of it.
Haugen slips a straight right by Hua.
Haugen fails with an attempt to clinch.
Haugen cracks Hua with a right hand to the side of the head.
Hua could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Haugen getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Haugen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hua swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Haugen counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hua's guard now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Hua. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hua utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Haugen has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hua is proving hard to escape from.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Haugen is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Hua is trying to keep Haugen in close.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Haugen is looking to clinch but Hua is avoiding it.
Hua fails with an attempt to clinch.

Haugen rushes Hua and presses him up against the cage.
Hua tries to circle away but Haugen has him pinned against the cage.

Hua has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Haugen after a bit of a struggle.
Haugen lands with a short shot to the head.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Haugen.
Hua is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Haugen to keep the fight standing.

Haugen manages to break the clinch.
Haugen is looking to clinch but Hua is avoiding it.
Hua dives in and grabs Haugen's left leg, looking for a takedown. Haugen pushes down on Hua's head and hops out.

Haugen moves into range and clinches up with Hua.

Haugen turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Haugen manages to end up in side control.
Hua is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Haugen decides to stand back up.
Haugen closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Haugen closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Haugen lands in his opponent's guard.
Hua on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hua tries to get out of the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Einar Haugen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Haugen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A determined Einar Haugen didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
