PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joey Ju (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jae Sung Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joey Ju!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jae Sung Kim!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shirou Masuda and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim darts in trying to clinch

and Ju moves into the clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Ju as Kim tries to tie him up.
Ju is looking to take this one to the mat.
Kim is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Kim goes for a takedown attempt but Ju pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Kim throws a nice head kick!

Ju moves into range and clinches up with Kim.

Ju pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Ju throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kim's waist but Kim gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ju off to one side.
Ju throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kim.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ju gets a takedown into half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Ju is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Ju is thwarting Kim's attempts to control the position.
Ju seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Ju is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ju looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Ju tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kim knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The fighters are battling for position here. Kim manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Ju stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Kim gets tackled into the cage by Ju. Ju maintains the clinch.

Ju breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Ju rushes Kim and presses him up against the cage.

Ju breaks from the clinch.

Ju closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Kim tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Ju is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Kim pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joey Ju. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ju is stalling here.

Ju escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ju looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A shot to the body from Ju misses
and Kim counters with a left and a right that stings Ju.
Ju connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Joey Ju seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kim shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ju as he avoids it easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ju will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Ju is breathing heavily.
Ju blocks a head kick by Kim.
A head kick misses from Ju.
Kim lands a leg kick that knocks Ju off balance momentarily.
Ju avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kim wants to clinch.

Ju rushes Kim and presses him up against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ju keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Kim's efforts to push away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joey Ju dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Ju closes the distance and clinches.
Kim is pressed up against the cage. Ju has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kim down to the mat. Kim avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Kim lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Ju shoots in looking for a takedown but Kim manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ju's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Kim keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joey Ju. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kim tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kim doesn't manage to clinch there - Ju circles away.
Ju closes the distance and clinches up with Kim, looking for a takedown. Ju pushes Kim against the cage but Kim circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ju shoots for a double leg takedown but Kim sprawls well. He's pushed Ju's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kim tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ju paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Ju fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kim avoids it really well and circles away.
Ju gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Kim throws a body kick that misses.
Ju throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kim fails in his attempt to clinch.
Kim throws a series of punches but Ju avoids them all with ease.
Ju slips a jab and a cross from Kim.
Ju shoots for a double leg takedown but Kim sprawls well. He's pushed Ju's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Ju moves out of range as Kim throws a body kick.
Kim throws a sloppy head kick and Ju moves out of range easily.
Kim feints and then cracks Ju's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Ju down.
Kim tries to clinch up.
Ju displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kim.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kim tries to close the distance and clinch but Ju swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Kim fails with a takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Ju or perhaps it was just good defense by Kim which made him look bad.
Kim misses with a head kick.
Kim tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Ju moves into the clinch.
Ju prevents Kim from breaking the clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Kim wants to get back to striking at distance but Ju won't allow it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kim tries to stall but Ju uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Ju is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Kim wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ju has him pressed against the cage.

Ju breaks from the clinch.
Kim misses with the body kick
and Ju counters with a body kick.
Kim fails to land the takedown.
Kim moves out of range of the body kick.
Kim fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Ju checks a low kick from Kim.
Ju misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Horrible takedown by Ju or perhaps it was just good defense by Kim which made him look bad.
Kim tries to score with a low kick but Ju moves his leg out of the way.

Ju has managed to clinch.
Ju comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Ju keeps control of Kim as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Ju works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Ju drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kim is trying to force a seperation but Ju has the dominant position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ju's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jae Sung Kim will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Ju has Kim up against the cage in a clinch.
Kim looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Ju's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Kim is looking to clinch but Ju is avoiding it.

Ju drives through and clinches with Kim against the cage.
Ju wants a takedown.
Kim tries to break free but Ju pushes him back against the cage.

Ju manages to break the clinch.
Kim shoots in looking for a takedown but Ju manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kim's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Kim swings and misses with a shot to the body

and Ju counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Ju.

Kim is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Ju jumps guard.
Kim preventing the sweep.
Kim is looking to work some ground and pound but Ju has wrist control.

Kim got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ju has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kim has managed to get both his arms back between Ju's legs - danger averted.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ju is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kim wants to control from the top but Ju keeps moving.

Ju wants to get back to his feet but Kim is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jae Sung Kim wasn't active enough on the ground.
Kim shoots in looking for a takedown but Ju manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kim's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Ju has closed the distance and engaged Kim in a clinch.
Ju stalling against the cage.

Ju pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kim tries to clinch but Ju is having none of it.
Nice body kick there by Kim.
Nice sprawl there from Ju as Kim shoots in.
Joey Ju has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jae Sung Kim.
Kim misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ju fails with the takedown.
Kim tries to close the distance and clinch but Ju swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ju swats away the attempt to clinch by Kim.
Kim tries to clinch up but Ju circles away and keeps his distance.
Ju takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kim. Ju does a little dance to reset his feet.
Ju is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Kim.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kim looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Ju darts in and clinches Kim up against the cage.
Ju is trying to drag Kim to the mat but Kim just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Joey Ju has scored more points in the clinch so far.
Kim working hard to break the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kim is trying to push Ju away but Ju has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Ju breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Joey Ju.
I think Ju has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
