PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kazekage Gaara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Moishe The Viper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Viper checks the leg kick.
Gaara looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Gaara throws a head kick but The Viper moves out of range.
Gaara throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Gaara throws a right hand that The Viper ducks under and follows up with a left that The Viper also avoids with ease.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Gaara.
Gaara swats away the attempt to clinch by The Viper.

The Viper closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The Viper tries to pass the half guard into mount. Gaara knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The Viper winds up and cracks Gaara with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

The Viper postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Gaara to stand up.

The Viper fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gaara, pushing him back against the cage.
The Viper blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Kazekage Gaara has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Moishe The Viper.

The Viper escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Gaara lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but The Viper circles away quickly and effectively.
Gaara misses with a jab, cross combination.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The Viper tries to close the distance and clinch but Gaara swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Gaara throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Gaara fails to land with a series of punches.

The Viper shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gaara's guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Kazekage Gaara wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
A combination from Gaara does no damage.
Gaara throws a low kick but The Viper avoids it.
Gaara will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

A close round but Moishe The Viper will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The Viper is trying to stick to Gaara's back but Gaara is turning into The Viper. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in The Viper's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Gaara.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kazekage Gaara wasn't doing enough on the ground.
The fight stays on the outside here - The Viper looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

The Viper scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Gaara throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and The Viper manages to pass to side control.
Gaara is looking to work his way out of this bad position but The Viper is controlling him well.

The Viper tries for a kimura but Gaara is defending well.

The Viper decides to stand back up. The Viper steps back and let's Gaara get back to his feet.

The Viper closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gaara to the mat! Gaara manages to get full guard.
The Viper really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gaara. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gaara is working an open guard so The Viper takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The Viper is breathing heavily.

The Viper closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - The Viper lands in his opponent's guard.

Moishe The Viper showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Gaara throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

The Viper fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gaara manages to avoid it.

The Viper tries to clinch but Gaara is having none of it.
The Viper steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Gaara. That one must have hurt.
The Viper takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The Viper tries to bum rush Gaara with a series of wild strikes but Gaara uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Gaara tries to land a front kick but The Viper steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

The Viper stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Gaara.

The Viper tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gaara paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Gaara thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on The Viper if he has to take too many more of those.

The Viper doesn't manage to clinch there - Gaara circles away.

The Viper manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Gaara on his heels. He'll look to pass Gaara's guard now, I'm sure.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The Viper prevents Gaara from standing back up.
Gaara tries to roll over but The Viper keeps him under control.
Gaara wants to get back to his feet.
Moishe The Viper has got the better of the ground game so far.
Gaara wants to control but The Viper is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Moishe The Viper is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Gaara is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Kazekage Gaara has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Gaara looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

The Viper takes the fight into the clinch.

The Viper's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The Viper shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with The Viper in particular looking to stall.

I would just about give that final round to Moishe The Viper.
I've got The Viper winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
