Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Victor Gillean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akira Sono (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Victor Gillean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akira Sono!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sono stuffs the takedown.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Sono enables Gillean to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Sono manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Sono is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Gillean has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Sono is working an open guard so Gillean takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Sono is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gillean knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sono has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gillean can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Sono controls Gillean momentarily but Gillean frees himself.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sono looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gillean is one step ahead there.
Sono is trying to keep Gillean in close.

Sono pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Gillean back to the cage. Sono follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Sono rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gillean moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Sono lets loose with a powerful body kick. Gillean will feel that in the morning.

Sono has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Gillean tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Sono's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Sono duly obliges.
Sono slaps away a takedown attempt from Gillean, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Sono scores with the left hand. Gillean knows he should have avoided that one.

Sono throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gillean.
Gillean tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sono sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gillean somewhat.

Gillean tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sono wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Akira Sono has got the better of the ground game so far.

Sono lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gillean looks to land a combination but Sono avoids it well.
Sono is looking to clinch.

Akira Sono showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Sono wants to stand but Gillean has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Akira Sono comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sono has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
