The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Weidman tries to clinch but Smith moves away

and Smith counters by moving into the clinch.
Weidman is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Smith to keep the fight standing.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Weidman throws a sloppy head kick and Smith moves out of range easily.
Weidman tries to close the distance and clinch up but Smith swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

and Smith counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Smith.

Smith will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Weidman is staying active underneath Smith, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
