Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stu Mercer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dieter Kolzig (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stu Mercer has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Stu Mercer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dieter Kolzig!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kolzig lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mercer circles away quickly and effectively.
Mercer displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kolzig throws out the jab.
Mercer goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
A right-left combo lands from Mercer.
Kolzig misses with a few strikes there.
Kolzig lands a slapping body shot.
Kolzig throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mercer.
Kolzig fails to land with a series of punches.
Kolzig lands a jab to Mercer's midsection.
Mercer throws a series of punches but Kolzig moves out of range.
Mercer rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kolzig moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Mercer fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kolzig sprawls well initially but Mercer persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Kolzig pushes Mercer off looking to stand but Mercer dives back in and keeps control.
Mercer takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mercer drops an elbow to the side of Kolzig's head.

Kolzig tries to kick Mercer off but Mercer keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Mercer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kolzig keeps working.
Mercer is really struggling to control Kolzig but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Stu Mercer.

Mercer shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kolzig's guard.

Kolzig had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mercer defends it easily.
Mercer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kolzig wants to sweep but no luck.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mercer throws a big elbow that misses.
Mercer wants to pass the guard but Kolzig is keeping the position.

Mercer scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Kolzig controls Mercer momentarily but Mercer frees himself.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mercer engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Mercer seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kolzig for as long as he can get away with.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Mercer's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Mercer throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Kolzig throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mercer fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kolzig manages to avoid it.
Kolzig swings and misses with a hook to the body.

A slapping body kick lands there for Mercer.

Mercer takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Kolzig misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mercer.

Mercer feints and as Kolzig raises his hands in defense, Mercer changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mercer content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Mercer wants to control from the top but Kolzig keeps moving.
Mercer stops Kolzig from standing up.
Kolzig can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mercer controls the pace.
Mercer is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Kolzig is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Stu Mercer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mercer is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mercer connects with a couple of short punches.
Mercer has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mercer's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Kolzig is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mercer slips a straight right by Kolzig.
Dieter Kolzig is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kolzig misses with a low kick.
Mercer avoids a punch combination nicely.

and Mercer counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Mercer is controlling the pace.
Mercer not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mercer in particular looking to stall.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stu Mercer dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Mercer shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kolzig is trying to defend but Mercer finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Mercer uses his free foot to push down on Kolzig's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kolzig.
Mercer postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kolzig looks a forlorn figure.

Mercer takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Kolzig is in a horrible position here. Mercer smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Kolzig is still in real trouble! Can Mercer finish him?

Mercer postures up and throws a big right hand. BOOM! Right on the button! Kolzig is out cold - huge knockout for Mercer!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Stu Mercer!
A very excited looking Stu Mercer rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
