Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hanson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Hanson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hanson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Attell has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Hanson off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

and Hanson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Attell's guard.

Attell wants to stand and escape but Hanson is having none of it.

Dave Hanson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hanson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Attell is just riding it out for now. Hanson eventually gives up the hold.

Attell gets to his feet. Hanson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Attell closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hanson had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Attell is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Hanson Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Attell's back instead.

Hanson is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Attell defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Hanson is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
