The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Decent striking displayed by Vaughn there.
Vaughn connects with the punch.

Powers forces Vaughn back against the cage and clinches.
Vaughn misses with some punches.
Vaughn has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Powers drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Powers manages to pull guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Powers lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Vaughn!
Vaughn should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Vaughn is working to get back to half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Powers tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Powers can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Vaughn is looking to escape.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Vaughn can do anything to dispel that myth.

Vaughn stopping the sweep attempt from Powers.
Powers is trying to control the position but Vaughn postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Thomas Powers.

Vaughn catches Powers with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Powers shoots in but Vaughn avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Vaughn throws a hook to the side of Powers's head but Powers sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Vaughn misses with an uppercut.

and Powers decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Vaughn's guard.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Powers not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Thomas Powers wasn't doing enough on the ground.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Vaughn has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Powers has picked Vaughn up - he's going for a ride! Powers dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Vaughn tries to kick Powers off in order to stand up. Powers Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Vaughn wants to control but Powers postures up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Powers is staying tight to Vaughn's torso, preventing him from escaping.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Thomas Powers will probably get the nod.

Powers shoots in for a double leg but Vaughn sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Vaughn lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Powers shoots for a double leg takedown but Vaughn sprawls well. He's pushed Powers's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Vaughn tried to score with a low kick but Powers checks it.

Vaughn tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Powers was well out of range. Poor timing from Vaughn.
Mickey Vaughn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Powers takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Powers takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Powers on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Vaughn connects with a body shot that sends Powers's belly button to the back.
Powers takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Vaughn scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Vaughn fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Powers checks it well.
Powers drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Vaughn ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Powers moves away.
Vaughn connects with a looping right hand.
Mickey Vaughn seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Vaughn scores with a jab to the head.
Mickey Vaughn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Powers takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Vaughn lands a right hook to the body.
Vaughn lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Powers closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Powers checks a leg kick.
Powers shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Vaughn as he jumps to the side.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Vaughn connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Vaughn scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Thomas Powers is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Powers has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Vaughn finds it's way round the side to connect with Powers's head.
