PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gaetan Desjardins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quinton The Quick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The Quick has chosen Higher as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gaetan Desjardins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Quinton The Quick!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Dillan Fox and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Desjardins closes the distance and pushes The Quick back into the cage.

Desjardins has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics The Quick uses from the top position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The Quick wants to control from the top but Desjardins keeps moving.
Desjardins is pulling down on The Quick's head. It's preventing any offense from The Quick, at least for the moment.

Desjardins looking to hit a scissor sweep but The Quick is one step ahead there.
The Quick won't allow Desjardins to get back to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Quinton The Quick.
Desjardins shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. The Quick defends it nicely.

Desjardins wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

The Quick has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Desjardins clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Will The Quick go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

A bit of a pause in the action here. The Quick controlling the positon.

Desjardins is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if The Quick gets his way!

Desjardins tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Desjardins is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Desjardins is in all sorts of trouble here.
The Quick misses with some ground and pound and Desjardins recovers position to half guard.
The Quick is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Desjardins manages to get to full guard.
The Quick looking to sit in guard and control but Desjardins gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Desjardins postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Desjardins slips nicely into half guard.

Desjardins looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Desjardins is looking for a kimura but The Quick is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Desjardins to get the leverage.
The Quick really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Desjardins. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The Quick is trying to stand.

That was a close round but I would say that Gaetan Desjardins will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Desjardins tries to close the distance and clinch up but The Quick swats him away and circles back towards the center.

The Quick looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Desjardins desperately trying to maintain half guard.
The Quick tries to stand but can't do so whilst Desjardins controls his leg.
The fighters are battling for position here. Desjardins manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

The Quick makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The Quick trying to control but Desjardins is working from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Desjardins tries to keep at a distance but The Quick has taken the fight into the clinch.
Desjardins drops down looking for an ankle pick but The Quick pulls his leg out and moves away.

The Quick drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The Quick has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Desjardins is proving hard to escape from.
The Quick trying to control but Desjardins is working from the bottom.
Desjardins lands a couple of shots from the bottom.
The Quick trying to control the position from guard on top but Desjardins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Desjardins pulls The Quick in close to prevent any damage.
Desjardins's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Quinton The Quick was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Desjardins connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

The Quick changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Desjardins looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Desjardins pushes The Quick away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, The Quick gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Desjardins is trying to control The Quick's posture but The Quick avoids it.

The Quick tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Desjardins manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Desjardins keeping control of the position.

The Quick is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Desjardins is just riding it out for now. The Quick eventually gives up the hold.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Desjardins is pressing down on The Quick's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quinton The Quick showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Desjardins closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Desjardins has worked his way into a potential kimura here. The Quick is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Desjardins yanks on the arm and The Quick is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Desjardins.
