Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jay McCull!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Neander Obeh!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Obeh darts in and clinches McCull up against the cage.
McCull is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Obeh is defending well.
Obeh effectively controlling the action here.

McCull breaks from the clinch.

Obeh gets a double leg takedown into McCull's guard.
Obeh wants to stand and escape but instead McCull has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
McCull trying to control but Obeh is working from the bottom.
Obeh is looking to stand up but McCull isn't so interested in that idea.
Obeh wants to sweep here but McCull controlling him for the moment.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Obeh can do anything to dispel that myth.
McCull tries to stand but Obeh is controlling from the bottom.

McCull trying to control the position from guard on top but Obeh is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McCull is looking to work some ground and pound but Obeh has wrist control.
Obeh looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

McCull stands up from Obeh's guard - McCull perhaps looking for a knockout.
McCull looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Obeh is fending him off so far but McCull persists. Nope, Obeh circles away and we're back to standing.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

McCull breaks from the clinch.

Obeh shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. McCull manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Obeh wants to stand but McCull is controlling his posture from full guard.
Obeh really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McCull. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

McCull has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Obeh can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Obeh is stalling in the full guard.
McCull keeping moving, preventing Obeh from controlling successfully.

McCull is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Obeh is controlling him.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Neander Obeh has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Obeh stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay McCull. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Obeh is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in McCull's half guard.
McCull wants to control but Obeh is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Obeh prevents McCull from improving his position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCull works his way to full guard. Good work.
Obeh stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McCull swivels though and keeps the full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Obeh is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Neander Obeh dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A bone on bone clash there as McCull blocks the leg kick.

Obeh has McCull pulled in close to control his posture.
Obeh keeping moving, preventing McCull from controlling successfully.
McCull wanted to stand there but Obeh had control of the position.

Jay McCull has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

A head kick misses from Obeh.
McCull shoots in and drives through. Obeh sprawls well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Obeh has McCull up against the cage in a clinch.
McCull is looking to break free of the clinch but Obeh has double underhooks.
Obeh can't break the clinch.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Obeh is trying to force a seperation but McCull has the dominant position.
Obeh is defending well against a takedown attempt.

McCull tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Obeh smiles and moves away.

Obeh instigates a clinch.

Obeh breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Obeh changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McCull tries to avoid it but Obeh manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McCull to the ground. McCull escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Obeh throws a sloppy head kick and McCull moves out of range easily.
McCull avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Obeh closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
You can see the frustration on McCull's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Obeh is looking to take a break and control but McCull is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
McCull manages to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McCull is staying active underneath Obeh, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Obeh lands strikes from half guard.
Obeh sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. McCull defending well though.
Neander Obeh has got the better of the ground game so far.
Obeh tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
McCull is trying to control but can't.
McCull slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
McCull trying to keep a closed guard but Obeh is proving a slippery customer.

Obeh tries to free his leg and advance position but McCull is retaining full guard.
McCull pulls Obeh in close to prevent any damage.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Obeh looking to sit in guard and control but McCull gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Obeh working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from McCull.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Obeh is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Neander Obeh will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Obeh shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

McCull is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Obeh is aware though and is defending well.
McCull is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Obeh content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because McCull has locked up a guillotine! McCull's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Obeh is holding on here and McCull must be using up a lot of energy. Obeh has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! McCull gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
