Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mike Vallely (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mario Alberto Neri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vallely comes to the cage accompanied by CKY - 96 Quite Bitter Beings. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Mario Alberto Neri was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Vallely!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mario Alberto Neri!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Paulo Santos and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Vallely stalling against the cage.
Neri goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Neri with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Vallely escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Vallely closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Vallely looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Neri with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Vallely is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Neri wants to control but Vallely is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Vallely stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Vallely closes the distance and clinches.

Vallely has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Neri is trying to keep an underhook but Vallely manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Vallely gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Vallely rushes Neri and presses him up against the cage.

Vallely breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A thudding body kick lands there by Vallely!
A head kick misses from Vallely.
Neri throws a head kick but Vallely moves out of range.
Mario Alberto Neri seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Vallely stuns Neri with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Vallely stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Vallely wants it to stay on the feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Vallely on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Vallely blocks an uppercut.
Vallely lands a damaging elbow.
Neri throws a punch but it's blocked by Vallely.
Neri struggles to land a body shot inside as Vallely controls his hands.
Vallely presses Neri against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Vallely taking a breather.
Vallely lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Neri is trying to stall.
Neri swings wildly with an uppercut but Vallely uses good head movement to avoid it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vallely dodges an elbow strike from Neri.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Vallely breaks the clinch.
Vallely uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Neri has time to react.
Neri throws a solid leg kick but Vallely takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Neri.
Vallely connects with a crisp jab.
Neri fails with a takedown attempt.
Neri looks winded!
Neri rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Vallely counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Vallely clinches with his opponent.

Vallely gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Neri taking some punishment here, with Vallely in his half guard.
Vallely perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mike Vallely just wasn't active enough.
Neri takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
A good leg kick by Vallely.

Vallely has Neri up against the cage in a clinch.
Vallely lands a body punch in the clinch.
Vallely landing some nice looking knees to the body.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Vallely takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Vallely lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Neri backwards.

Vallely successfully pulls guard.
Vallely has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Vallely has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Neri doesn't defend quickly enough and Vallely has managed to lock this one up! Can Neri escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Vallely on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Mike Vallely!
Mike Vallely is the new middleweight champion!
In his post fight interview, Mike Vallely started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
