Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Matt Manuel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Konosuke Kanayama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manuel comes to the cage accompanied by Lay Low. Konosuke Kanayama struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 147.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Manuel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Konosuke Kanayama!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manuel throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kanayama looks for a takedown but Manuel sprawls well.

Manuel clinches.
Manuel crunches a lovely knee into Kanayama's ribcage.

Manuel pulls guard.
Manuel looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Manuel trying to strike off his back.
Manuel not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Manuel is on top in guard.
Manuel throwing strikes but missing.
Manuel thows a big elbow that misses.
Manuel with a flurry of punches that miss.
Manuel stays in close to Kanayama's body and controls the position.

Manuel trying to control but Kanayama is working from the bottom.

Kanayama had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Manuel is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Kanayama Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Manuel's back instead.
Manuel tries to break free.
Manuel breaks Kanayama's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Manuel postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Kanayama looks gassed!
Manuel works a leg free and moves into half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Manuel takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Manuel has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Manuel is trying to control the action in half guard but Kanayama is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Manuel thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kanayama's head.

Manuel thows a huge punch but Kanayama dodges it nicely.

Kanayama pushes Manuel off and gets back to his feet.

Manuel avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Manuel scores with a takedown into Kanayama's guard.
Manuel controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Manuel scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Manuel working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Manuel advances position into side control!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Manuel has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Manuel with a couple of short strikes.
The referee warns Kanayama that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
BOOM! Manuel connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Kanayama is still in real trouble! Can Manuel finish him?

Manuel is working for a guillotine from mount but Kanayama frees his head quite easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kanayama is in a horrible position here. Manuel smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Manuel dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Manuel lands a right hook to the body.
Matt Manuel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Manuel scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Nice body punch from Manuel.
Whack! Manuel lands a heavy head kick that drops Kanayama. The ref tackles Manuel to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Kanayama was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Matt Manuel!
