And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Stephane Chen!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Chen.

Chen clinches up against the cage.
Chen is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Monsoon pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Monsoon breaks the clinch.
Chen shoots for a takedown but Monsoon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Tim Monsoon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stephane Chen.
Monsoon lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.


It looks like Stephane Chen has been cut.
Monsoon fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Chen checks it well.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Monsoon scores with a crisp jab that stopped Chen in his tracks.

Chen is trying to keep Monsoon in close.

Chen wants to sweep but no luck.
Chen seems to have recovered his senses.

Monsoon in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Monsoon wants to control from the top but Chen keeps moving.

Monsoon drops back, looking for a kneebar! Chen looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Chen looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Chen!
Monsoon is being controlled here.
Monsoon is looking for a sweep.
Chen is trying to ground and pound but Monsoon uses the momentary lack of control by Chen to regain half guard.
Monsoon is trying to maintain the position but Chen is very close to passing his half guard.

Monsoon keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Chen trying to control from Monsoon's half guard. Monsoon has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Chen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Chen makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Chen wants to control from the top but Monsoon keeps moving.

Chen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Monsoon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Chen holds on and takes a little breather.

Monsoon throws a big right hand that misses.
Monsoon is pushing down on Chen's leg trying to pass to half guard. Chen is fighting to maintain full guard but Monsoon has managed to sneak the leg through.

Monsoon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chen keeps working.
Chen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Monsoon is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Monsoon is working for a submission of some sort.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Monsoon is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Monsoon slips under a jab from Chen.
Chen throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Monsoon's waist but Monsoon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Chen off to one side.
Chen shoots for a takedown but Monsoon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Nice sprawl there from Monsoon as Chen shoots in.
Tim Monsoon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stephane Chen.
Monsoon fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Chen is defended easily by Monsoon.
Monsoon scores with a shot to the body.
Monsoon connects with a right hand. Chen shakes it off.

Monsoon bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Chen! He dives into his guard looking to finish!

That has opened up Stephane Chen's cut even more.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Monsoon trying to control but Chen is working from the bottom.
Monsoon is really struggling to control Chen but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Chen preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Monsoon passes Chen's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Monsoon not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Monsoon will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Chen regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Monsoon.

Monsoon is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Chen can do to turn this around?

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Chen can do anything to dispel that myth.

Monsoon wants to advance to full mount but Chen doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Monsoon stands and throws Chen's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Chen avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Monsoon.
Monsoon creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Chen sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Chen is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Monsoon has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Monsoon looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Chen is avoiding damage well.
Monsoon wants to take a breather but Chen manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Monsoon.
Monsoon working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Chen's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chen shoots for a double leg takedown but Monsoon sprawls well. He's pushed Chen's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Monsoon slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Chen throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Chen landing with the ground and pound.
Chen stands up over Monsoon, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Monsoon slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Tim Monsoon just wasn't active enough.

Monsoon gets caught flat footed, as Chen shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Monsoon keeping moving, preventing Chen from controlling successfully.

Chen drops back, looking for a kneebar! Monsoon looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Monsoon looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Monsoon!
Monsoon lands a nice forearm strike.

Monsoon is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Chen is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Monsoon wants to control but Chen is keeping him busy.
Chen takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Monsoon thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Monsoon tries to score with some ground and pound. Chen controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The cut above Stephane Chen's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Chen throws a wild hook but Monsoon just manages to duck under it and - ooooh! Chen gets nailed by a brutal uppercut which crumples him back against the cage! The referee jumps in - Monsoon raises his hands in celebration and walks away!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 4, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tim Monsoon!
Tim Monsoon retains his heavyweight title!
A relieved looking Tim Monsoon thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
